Christy Carlson Romano Explains How She Lost All of Her Money & Went Into Debt

Christy Carlson Romano is speaking out to explain how she ended up in financial trouble.

The 37-year-old actress got her big break on the Disney Channel in the shows Even Stevens and Kim Possible. While she had some major success at the beginning of her career, she reached a point where she ended up in major debt.

Christy posted a new video to her YouTube page titled “How I Lost All My Money.”

In the video, she said, “I really regret not investing my money wisely. I didn’t get a house.”

“I didn’t take any money and store it away other than the Coogan money,” Christy said. The Coogan money refers to “law that protects minors from their parents spending all their money.”

“That money I used towards going to college at 18,” she said, though she quit school after less than two years.

“I was using buying things and money as a weapon,” Christy said. “I felt like if I could just buy certain things, I would feel better or if I just lived a certain lifestyle, I would be closer to that joy of feeling accepted and a lot less alone because I felt really dumb for not knowing about my money and I never really made peace with that. Even to this day, there’s nothing I can really do about the fact that money came and went.”

Christy spent money on things like a Mercedes G-Wagon, a 1972 Corvette that she never drove, and a psychic who she hired. After earning a million dollars at the age of 21, she spent the money in a year.

“You think you have this extravagant life. And then real life hits you in the face,” she said.

In another video, Christy explained why she was once jealous of her former co-star Shia LaBeouf.
