The news comes after the second half of the fourth season debuted July 1, consisting of two episodes that span approximately four hours. The new episodes help boost season 4 to 1.15 billion hours viewed since volume 1 was released in late May.

Squid Game was the first Netflix series to cross the billion mark and remains the streamer’s most popular TV title with 1.65 billion hours viewed. Netflix calculates those numbers during the first 28 days of availability, after which viewership is no longer counted. Because of the show’s segmented release, there’s still a chance that Stranger Things could beat out Squid Game for the number one spot.

Season 4 was watched for 301.3 million hours during the June 27-July 3 viewing period. This has been the second most successful week of Stranger Things apart from the May 20-June 5 window. The show has been in the No. 1 position of Netflix’s Top 10 chart except for last week, when The Umbrella Academy season 3 premiered.

The writers for Stranger Things recently revealed which moments from the fourth season were improvised. Check it out.
