Alec Baldwin's 'Rust' Charge Stems from Law Enacted After Tragic Shooting

Questions are arising about Alec Baldwin‘s charges stemming from the Rust shooting.
The actor was charged with involuntary manslaughter in connection to the death of Halyna Hutchins late last month. The charge faces 18 months of prison time. However, a “firearm enhancement” could carry an additional five years in prison.
However, that enhancement was not in effect at the time of the accidental shooting, which resulted in Halyna‘s death.

According to reporting by Variety, the law was not enacted until months after the tragedy occurred.
A representative told the publication that the District Attorney was looking into the situation.
“The District Attorney and special prosecutor are actively reviewing all applicable laws to ensure they have the strongest case to secure justice for Halyna Hutchins,” they said.
