LeBron James Says He Is Considering Retirement From The NBA

LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers were just swept out of the Western Conference Finals.

Now, the 38-year-old superstar says he is considering retirement.

“We’ll see what happens going forward,” LeBron said in the postgame news conference. “I don’t know. I don’t know. I’ve got a lot to think about, to be honest. Just for me personally going forward with the game of basketball, I’ve got a lot to think about.”

LeBron is under contract for $46.9 million next season with the Lakers.

“I don’t like to say it’s a successful year, because I don’t play for anything besides winning championships at this point in my career,” LeBron said, per the NBA. “You know, I don’t get a kick out of making a conference (finals) appearance. I’ve done it a lot, and it’s not fun to me to not be able to be a part of getting to the (NBA) Finals.”

LeBron was also asked to assess this past year with the Lakers. “I guess I’ll reflect on my career when I’m done, but I don’t know,” he said. “The only thing I concern myself with is being available to my teammates, and I don’t like the fact that I didn’t play as many games as I would have liked because of injury. That’s the only thing I care about, is being available to my teammates.”

LeBron previously said that he would like to play his final NBA season alongside his son Bronny James, who is now 18.

Yesterday, Carmelo Anthony officially announced his retirement from the NBA. In the 2003 NBA Draft, LeBron was selected first while Carmelo was selected 3rd.
