Carmelo Anthony has officially announced his retirement from the NBA.

“Now the time has come for me to say goodbye, to the court where I made my name, to the game that gave me purpose and pride,” the 38-year-old basketball player said in a video.

I’m excited about what the future holds for me,” Carmelo said. “When people ask me what my legacy is, it’s not my feats on the court that come to mind, nor the awards or praise, because my story has always been more than basketball.”

Carmelo retires as the No. 9 scorer in NBA league history.

In 2021, LaLa Anthony filed for divorce from Carmelo after being married for 11 years and being together for 16 years. They share their son Kiyan, a high school shooting guard.

“The time has come for you to carry the torch,” Carmelo said. “My legacy, now and forever, lives on through you. My legacy, my son … I will forever continue through you. The time has come for you to carry this torch.”

Last year, LaLa opened up about why their marriage failed.
