New ‘Hunger Games’ Book ‘Sunrise on the Reaping’ Coming in 2025 – Plot Details Revealed!

Author Suzanne Collins has a new “Hunger Games” book is coming in 2025!

“Sunrise on the Reaping” takes place 40 years after the events of her most recent book, “The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes.” It will also be a prequel book, taking place before the events of the original “Hunger Games” trilogy.

According to EW, the book will highlight the 50th Hunger Games, which is the same Hunger Games that was won by district 12 tribute Haymitch Abernathy (played by Woody Harrelson in the trilogy). Woody‘s character acted as a mentor to Katniss and Peeta in their Hunger Games.

The plot “will revisit the world of Panem 24 years before the events of The Hunger Games, starting on the morning of the reaping of the 50th Hunger Games, also known as the Second Quarter Quell.”

Suzanne said in a statement to the AP, “With ‘Sunrise on the Reaping,’ I was inspired by David Hume’s idea of implicit submission and, in his words, ‘the easiness with which the many are governed by the few.’ The story also lent itself to a deeper dive into the use of propaganda and the power of those who control the narrative. The question ‘Real or not real?’ seems more pressing to me every day.”

The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes was made into a 2023 film starring Rachel Zegler and Tom Blyth. The original Hunger Games trilogy books were made into four movies starring Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, and Liam Hemsworth.

Find out if Jennifer would ever return to the role of Katniss Everdeen.
