Netflix calculates views by dividing total hours watched by a film’s runtime, and this launch beats the record for all previous titles that Adam has done; including fan favorites like Murder Mystery, Hubie Halloween, and The Week Of.

The streaming success has also reignited love for the original Happy Gilmore, which landed at No. 3 on the global top 10 list with 11.4 million views, marking its second week among the most-watched.

Nearly 30 years after the original, the sequel finds Happy retired from golf and spiraling after a devastating moment on the green. He’s lured back to the sport when his daughter’s elite ballet school in Paris threatens to break the bank.

The new film touted a chockful of familiar faces, including Christopher McDonald as villainous Shooter McGavin, while new cast members include Benny Safdie, Bad Bunny, Travis Kelce, and Sandler’s real-life family: Jackie, Sadie, and Sunny.

Currently Happy Gilmore 2 currently holds a very respectable 70% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Reviews for the film were generally very positive with a few critical words from a few reviewers.

Rounding out the rest of the top shows on Netflix, the animated flick KPop Demon Hunters came in second place with 26.3 million views, while thriller series Untamed held the No. 1 English-language TV spot for the second week straight. Squid Game Season 3 continued its international reign, holding the top non-English language show title for a fifth week.
