As 2012 comes to a close, we’d like to remember the celebrities that passed away this past year.

It came as a shock when news spread that legendary singer Whitney Houston passed away in February, right before the 2012 Grammy Awards. Another singing legend Etta James passed away just one month before in January after a long battle with leukemia.

Director Tony Scott tragically committed suicide over the summer by jumping off a bridge. He was survived by numerous loved ones, including his brother, director Ridley Scott.

Our continued thoughts go out to the families and friends of those who passed away this year.

So many celebrity babies were welcomed into the world this past year!

In the beginning of 2012, Beyonce and Jay-Z‘s daughter Blue Ivy Carter was born, causing an Internet frenzy! Her first pics were released one month later and boy is she a cutie! Hilary Duff and her hubby Mike Comrie welcomed their little guy Luca in March. Also giving birth was Megan Fox, who kept baby Noah‘s birth a secret for a whole month!

Two famous celebrity moms gave birth for the third time this year: Jennifer Garner welcomed her first son Samuel with husband Ben Affleck, and Reese Witherspoon gave birth this past September to a baby both with hubby Jim Toth named Tennessee.

In the past year, we’ve seen some shocking celebrity breakups.

Back in June, Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes announced they were separating after years of marriage. Another shocking split was Heidi Klum and Seal‘s January divorce announcement, which broke up the family of six. In October, Chris Brown and Karrueche Tran went their separate ways, and rumors quickly spread that he reunited with his ex Rihanna. Taylor Swift and her guy Conor Kennedy also called it quits after having a summer romance.

Some breakups did end in a reconciliation, however, like Sofia Vergara and Nick Loeb, who split in May, but became engaged later in the year! Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez were also reported to have split, but have been recently linked back together as well.

It was a huge year for celebrity engagements in 2012!!

Beginning the very first day of January, 2012 until now, celebrities have been popping the question and saying “yes” to their loved ones! Back in mid January, Halle Berry and Olivier Martinez fielded rumors of their engagement, only to have it confirmed soon after. A few months later, in April, the engagement we’ve all been waiting for, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, became official!

Sprinkled throughout, we heard the news of the engagements between Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux, Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth, Kate Bosworth and Michael Polish, Keira Knightley and James Righton, Avril Lavigne and Chad Kroeger, and so many more.

It was a big year for celebrity weddings in 2012!

Back in April we had the surprise wedding of Carey Mulligan and Marcus Mumford and just a few days ago, Kate Winslet and Ned Rocknroll shocked the world with the announcement that they had tied the knot.
