Brian Cox Reveals How He Really Feels About Method Acting: 'It's Crap'

Brian Cox doesn’t have a very positive opinion about method acting!

The 76-year-old Succession star blasted the theoretical approach to acting during a Q&A session after the screening for his new movie Prisoner’s Daughter at the 2022 Toronto International Film Festival.

“I don’t hold a lot of the American s-it, having to have a religious experience every time you play a part,” Brian said, according to The Hollywood Reporter. “It’s crap.”

Instead of holding onto a role, the actor explained that he lets go of his characters once he’s done with them. “I let them go through me. The thing is to be ready to accept, as an actor. You stand there, you’re ready to accept whatever is thrown at you,” he said.

“You just let it come through you. And you don’t get in the f-cking way,” Brian added.

Kate Beckinsale Pairs A Bright Pink Dress With Black Latex Gloves at TIFF Premiere of 'The Prisoner's Daughter'

Kate Beckinsale gets a bit cheeky on the red carpet for the premiere of The Prisoner’s Daughter during the 2022 Toronto Film Festival at Roy Thomson Hall on Wednesday (September 14) in Toronto, Ontario.

The 49-year-old actress met up with co-stars Tyson Ritter, Christopher Convery, and Brian Cox, as well as director Catherine Hardwicke and executive producer Mark Bacci, for the event.

Here’s a summary of the movie: After 12 years, Max (Cox) is freed from prison. That’s the good news. The bad news is that he has pancreatic cancer and has been given just months to live.

The conditions of Max’s compassionate leave require him to reside with his estranged daughter Maxine (Beckinsale), who accepts only grudgingly. Though she works multiple jobs, Maxine struggles to cover the mortgage on her Las Vegas home and buy epilepsy medication for her son Ezra (Convery).

She gets no help from Ezra’s father, Tyler (Ritter), an unemployed musician and sometimes violent addict.

Upon arrival, Max sets about fixing up the place, calling on old friends for money, and teaching Ezra a thing or two about defending himself against bullies. But after so many years of neglect, is it too late to make amends?

Check out a clip from the movie below!

FYI: Kate wore a Bach Mai dress with Bulgari jewels.
