F1's Emilia-Romagna, Italy Race Weekend Postponed Due To Unprecedented Flooding

The upcoming F1 race weekend in Italy has been postponed.

Formula One bosses made the decision about delaying the races after the region of Emilia-Romagna was hit with extreme weather that resulted in flooding.

“The decision has been taken because it is not possible to safely hold the event for our fans, the teams and our personnel and it is the right and responsible thing to do given the situation faced by the towns and cities in the region,” F1 shared in a statement, via ESPN. “It would not be right to put further pressure on the local authorities and emergency services at this difficult time.”

The outlet added that F1 are looking at running the race at a later time in the 2023 season, however, it’s unlikely as the rest of the season is jam-packed. Nothing has been confirmed just yet.

ESPN‘s report says that the Imola circuit would be covered by the overflow of the Santerno river because of the rain. There was also a red weather alert for floods and landslides in the area.

Following the Italy race, the F1 schedule heads to Monaco and Spain in the coming weeks.
