The 'Glee' Cast Almost Looked Very Different! Did You Know These Stars Were Almost Part of the Series (& Some Cast Members Auditioned for Different Roles Before Joining the Show)

The cast of Glee hit the map as some of the brightest rising stars on the scene when the musical series debuted in 2009.

However, the lineup of the New Directions might have been very different. In the years since Glee debuted, we’ve learned that a slew of actors auditioned for the show or expressed interest in making a cameo in an episode or two.

Some cast members even auditioned for different parts than what they ultimately got!

During an interview with Kevin McHale and Jenna Uskhowitz on their And That’s What You REALLY Missed Glee podcast, casting director Robert J. Ulrich opened up about the casting process.

“I really loved every single role and was happy and proud of all of you in every role. That is the truth,” he said.

He noted, though, that “the most difficult roles were Finn and Mercedes for sure.”

Ryan [Murphy] really wanted Finn to be this believable high school jock and yet to sing great. We had flown people out from New York. We had so many auditions,” he recalled. That makes sense, as we have since learned that a multitude of actors were up for the role that ultimately went to Cory Monteith.

The interview made us curious, and we decided to do some digging to see what the cast could have looked like had things gone differently. We put the potential cast together in a list. Would you have guessed that all of these stars were almost involved in Glee?

Halle Bailey Swims Over To London For 'The Little Mermaid' Premiere with Jonah Hauer-King

Ariel and Prince Eric have reunited!

Halle Bailey and Jonah Hauer-King have a sweet reunion at the premiere of The Little Mermaid held at Odeon Luxe Leicester Square on Monday (May 15) in London.

The two actors hit the blue carpet together and joined many of their co-stars, including Daveed Diggs, Jacob Tremblay, Javier Bardem, Melissa McCarthy, Josh Dagleish, and Jessica Alexander.

Halle was also joined by all six of her mermaid sisters at the premiere: Lorena Andrea, Sienna King, Nathalie Sorrell, Simone Ashley, Karolina Conchet, and Kajsa Mohammar.

Known to many already, The Little Mermaid centers on the youngest of King Triton’s daughters, Ariel, who yearns to learn more about life above the ocean. She makes a deal with the evil sea witch, Ursula, which gives her a chance to experience life on land but ultimately places her life – and her father’s crown – in jeopardy.

The movie will swim into theaters on May 26.

Halle Bailey Says It Took An Entire Day To Perfect Ariel's Hair Flipping Scene in 'The Little Mermaid'

Halle Bailey leans into Javier Bardem as the two share a sweet moment at the premiere of The Little Mermaid held at Parque Toreo on Thursday (May 11) in Mexico City.

The on-screen father and daughter duo walked the ocean blue carpet as they promoted their new live action Disney movie, which will be out in theaters on May 26.

Ahead of a Q&A panel at the screening, Halle was seen meeting several young fans of the Disney princess she portrays.

In a recent interview with EW, Halle opened up about how long it took to perfect that iconic hair flipping shot that you see in the trailer for the movie.

“That scene was so fun to do. It was definitely hard, though, because my hair was really, really heavy,” she revealed. “I have my locs, which are my favorite thing. I’ve had my locs since I was 5. It feels like wool when it’s wet. So it gets heavier. It kind of almost doubles the weight when they’re heavy.”

However, it wasn’t just her locs that she was wearing, there was also an additional wig that was woven in.

“It was just a lot of hair on my head,” Halle added. “So whenever I would get in the water, it would be heavy. So that one scene, it was really funny: that whole day we were trying to get it right, get it right, and finally they got a take that they really liked.”

FYI: Halle is wearing a Georges Chakras dress and Dena Kemp earrings.
