Here's Why 'Mad Men's Blackface Episode Will Not Be Pulled From Streaming

Lionsgate has decided to keep up the episode of the AMC series Mad Men that features blackface.

The LA Times reports that the episode in question, season 3′s “My Old Kentucky Home”, will be shown in its entirety.

“This episode contains disturbing images related to race in America,” an intro card ahead of the episode will read, the paper says. “One of the characters is shown in blackface as part of an episode that shows how commonplace racism was in America in 1963.

In a statement about why the episode will not be taken down, Lionsgate says that “in its reliance on historical authenticity, the series producers are committed to exposing the injustices and inequities within our society that continue to this day so we can examine even the most painful parts of our history in order to reflect on who we are today and who we want to become. We are therefore presenting the original episode in its entirety.”

The episode sees Roger Sterling wear blackface while serenading Jane with a rendition of “My Old Kentucky Home” at a country club Derby party.

Other shows, including 30 Rock, Golden Girls, Scrubs and many others have pulled their own episodes featuring blackface.

Mad Men will begin streaming on IMDb TV on July 15.

Oh, I don’t know. Maybe we have!” Elisabeth shared with a laugh with ET. “I don’t know. Maybe we have had some discussions about this. I don’t think I am in a position to officially share anything. But, yes, we are aware that people are doing reunions and we’ve never done one, which is so crazy. We really all haven’t been together in five years. So I’ll just leave you with that.”

Elisabeth starred as Peggy Olsen on Mad Men from 2007 to 2015.

Jon Hamm Thinks That Don Draper Would Be Dead Today

Jon Hamm is sharing his thoughts on where his Mad Men character Don Draper would be today… which he believes to be six feet under.

The 45-year-old actor, who won an Emmy for his work on the final season of the AMC series, opened up on The Rich Eisen Show.

It was hinted in the series finale that Don Draper came up with the iconic Coke jingle, but we weren’t given much insight into his future.

“He’d be in his 80s (now) and there ain’t no way that guy is getting into his 80s without a massive lifestyle shift, which maybe he did at the end of the show, but I don’t think that stuck,” Jon said. “I don’t think that zen moment of understanding anything really stuck.”

“I thought it was a very poetic, very nice way to end the show, and also very cryptic, which sticks in the realm of the show’s vocabulary anyway” he added about how the show ended. “It’s nice to talk about a show you like and now have it have to be spoon feed to you.”
