'New Mutants' Director Josh Boone Deletes Instagram After the Film's Release

Josh Boone, the director and co-writer of the new X-Men spinoff movie The New Mutants, has deleted his Instagram page.

The deletion of the social media account happened right after the movie was finally released in theaters after years of delays.

The movie went through many issues during production and there have been reports that the studio even wanted to throw out the film and start over. Now that the film is out in theaters, the response has been mostly negative. The Rotten Tomatoes score currently is at a 29% and the audience score is at a 53%.

Some eagle-eyed fans of The New Mutants noticed that Josh deactivated his profile on Instagram after the film starting receiving backlash on there. Some of the backlash has revolved around the casting of the character Sunspot with an actor who is not dark-skinned, as he is in the comics.

The New Mutants is an original horror thriller set in an isolated hospital where a group of young mutants is being held for psychiatric monitoring. When strange occurrences begin to take place, both their new mutant abilities and their friendships will be tested as they battle to try and make it out alive.

In an interview given back in March, Josh explained why there were never actually any reshoots on the movie.

'New Mutants' Director Explains Why Reshoots Never Actually Happened

The upcoming X-Men horror film The New Mutants is finally hitting theaters in April after years of delays and now director Josh Boone is speaking out in response to rumors that they were filming reshoots during that time.

There were tons of articles over the years about how the movie was being reshot to change the tone and story, but Boone says no reshoots ever happened.

Why? After the Disney-Fox merger finally happened, the cast had aged too much and they no longer could play the roles.

“Everybody said we did reshoots! We’ve never done reshoots,” he told Entertainment Weekly. “And I’ll tell you this: if there hadn’t been a merger, I’m sure we would’ve done reshoots the same way every movie does pickups. We didn’t even do that because by the time the merger was done and everything was settled, everybody’s older.”

Josh says that 75% of the movie was completed in the post-production process when he stopped working on it, but once Disney asked him to continue, he went right back to work.

“We came back and finished it up. It took a couple months, and it was nice to be able to come back,” he said. “Knate [Lee], my co-writer, and I, we hadn’t seen it in a year. We did a bunch of things here and there that we hadn’t thought about or noticed a year before.”

The New Mutants hits theaters on April 3.

Charlie Heaton Says 'The New Mutants' Will Come Out in 2020

Charlie Heaton is pretty confident that The New Mutants will debut in theaters next year.

During his appearance at the For the Love of Sci-Fi convention in Manchester, England earlier this month, the 25-year-old actor attributed the delay to the Fox and Disney merger.

“It’s coming out next year, but we filmed it almost two years ago. It’s the release [date] that’s been moved quite a while,” he shared. “If you don’t know, The New Mutants is like an X-Men spinoff. It was a comic book; Bill Sienkiewicz did it and it was an X-Men comic. It’s basically like a separate bunch of mutants.”

Charlie added, “We shot this a while back and it’s been pushed because Fox has now merged with Disney.”

The New Mutants was originally supposed to premiere in 2018.
