A Superstore spinoff is in the works!

Deadline has revealed that NBC has ordered a new series based on Cheyenne and Bo, characters on the original show played by Nichole Sakura and Johnny Pemberton.

The spinoff would center on the married couple and parents as they “balance their big dreams with the harsh realities of being a blue-collar family in America.” A pilot script is being worked on now.

Cheyenne and Bo welcomed a daughter, who they named Harmonica, in the season one finale, and they got married on the show in season two.

The news of the spinoff comes just a few weeks after NBC announced that the current season of Superstore would be its last, following America Ferrera‘s exit as Amy.

The season five finale of Superstore aired in April, and the season was supposed to feature the farewell of America Ferrera‘s character Amy. Find out what happened.

Superstore is set in the fictional big-box store Cloud 9, and also stars Ben Feldman, Lauren Ash, Colton Dunn, Nico Santos, Nichole Sakura, Kaliko Kauahi and Mark McKinney.

Superstore has always been a signature NBC series that has never failed to make us laugh while also thoughtfully examining important issues people care deeply about. This has been an amazing group of writers, producers, actors and crew to work with and we are incredibly grateful for all their contributions. This show will forever hold its place among the top workplace comedies for which we have a cherished history,” said NBC’s Lisa Katz.

“We’re grateful to Universal Television and NBC for letting us make 113 episodes of a show we’re so proud of, and for giving us the chance to work with such an incredibly talented group of actors, writers and crew. We’re thankful most of all to the viewers who’ve stuck with us for the past six years (or discovered us somewhere along the way). We’ll do our best to go out strong and give you the satisfying ending you deserve,” the creators said in a statement.

America Ferrera Will Return for 'Superstore' Season 6 Premiere After Her Farewell Was Cut Short

The season five finale of Superstore aired tonight and this season was supposed to feature the farewell of America Ferrera‘s character Amy.

America, who is pregnant with her second child, made the decision earlier this year to leave the show, but now she will return for one more episode in season six amid the abrupt end to the season.

The final episode of Superstore‘s season was not filmed because of production shutdowns due to the ongoing health crisis. Showrunner Jonathan Green has said that America has agreed to return for the season six premiere to wrap up her character’s farewell.

“That was a pretty immediate decision. As soon as it became clear that we weren’t going to be able to shoot [it as] the finale, she said, ‘I need to come back for the first episode.’ Obviously we were glad to hear that… It just wouldn’t feel right to send her off without a proper farewell episode,” Jonathan told TV Line.

America Ferrera Films Last Scene for 'Superstore' As Set Shuts Down Due To Coronavirus

America Ferrera has wrapped up filming on Superstore.

“Today is unexpectedly my last day shooting on Superstore for this season,” the 35-year-old actress revealed on her Instagram Stories on Friday. “We are shutting down production, as they are all shows on the Universal lot.”

If you remember, it was announced that America would be leaving the popular NBC series at the end of the season.

However, now that the set is shut down, it remains unclear when or if we’ll get a goodbye storyline for America‘s character, Amy.

“I assume [this] means we’ll be coming back when things clear up to finish Amy’s storyline,” she added. “But I’m about to shoot my last scene [of Season 5]… right now.”

Here’s hoping America will come back for a proper goodbye!
