'The X-Files' Creator Chris Carter Addresses Ryan Coogler Reboot Series

The X-Files creator Chris Carter is addressing the reboot series coming from Black Panther director Ryan Coogler.

During the opening of his art exhibit in Los Angeles, he spoke about the legacy of the show and the reboot to TheWrap.

He confirmed that Ryan will produce the upcoming series, and that he himself would not be involved.

“I wouldn’t. Only as a cheerleader. They don’t need my blessing. 20th Century Fox and Disney owns the show. They are free to do with it what they believe. I’m honored that they came to me and asked me, not for my permission, but my blessing,” he said.

Gillian Anderson Throws Shade at Fox for 'X-Files' Cancellation

Gillian Anderson is throwing some shade at Fox after the network said that “there are no plans to do another season [of The X-Files] at the moment.”

TVLine’s Michael Ausiello tweeted that Fox has no plans for a season 12 after Gillian‘s exit from the show.

Gillian shut down the idea that her exit is the reason for Fox’s decision to not move forward with the series. She tweeted, “Well Michael, the truth is…after exit of 77% of viewership.”

While season 10, which aired in 2016, had an average of 13.6 million viewers, season 11′s finale had only 3.4 million viewers.

“It’s time for me to hang up Scully’s hat. It just is. I’m finished and that’s the end of that,” she said. She added that she originally only intended to sign on for the six-episode revival in 2017, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

“I arrived at the decision before we did the previous six, but I was really curious. I felt that the previous six was going to be it. It was dipping our toe back in again…and getting to play these wonderful characters again. I think as [series creator] Chris [Carter] has said himself that short stack of episodes felt like we were leaning how to walk again and that this season of 10 feels like the pace is up and we’re running.”

“I wouldn’t necessarily have been happy if those six were how we said goodbye,” she added.

“There’s lots of things that I want to do in my life and in my career and it’s been an extraordinary opportunity and extraordinary character and I am hugely grateful.”

The show’s 11th season premiered on January 3.
