Tennis Pro Jessica Pegula Caught on Hot Mic Calling Mirra Andreeva a 'Diva,' Brings Up Coco Gauff
Jessica Pegula is drawing attention after a hot mic captured comments seemingly aimed at fellow tennis players Mirra Andreeva and Coco Gauff. The video was recorded during practice this week at the Women’s Tennis Association Finals in Indian Wells, California. Pegula, 32, seemingly described Andreeva, 19, as a nice person but called her "a diva" and said she needed humbling. She also criticized behavior she described as disrespectful, including a player getting angry with her coach and hitting balls at her. Pegula also discussed Andreeva’s coach, Conchita Martínez, saying she had always treated her well but that she had lost some respect for her. Pegula accused Martínez of encouraging the behavior, while praising the player’s serve, intelligence and ability to anticipate. The conversation then turned to Gauff, 22. Pegula suggested Andreeva could be better than Gauff if she shared Gauff’s mentality, pointing to her serve and movement. The comments are circulating online, and none of those involved have responded so far.
