Tim Allen Addresses Roseanne Barr's Racist Tweets, Says 'That’s Not the Rosie I Know'

Tim Allen is standing by his friend Roseanne Barr.

While attending FOX’s 2018 TCA Press Tour on Thursday night (August 2), the 65-year-old actor address the 65-year-old disgraced actress’ racist tweets and her firing from ABC.

“I go away back with Rosie and that’s not the Rosie I know,” Tim said. “She was the most diverse and tolerant woman I’ve ever known for a long time. Whatever got in her head, isn’t the Roseanne I know.”

Tim‘s show Last Man Standing was axed by ABC after six seasons and was picked up for a seventh season by FOX.

“It’s a very icy time. I’m a veteran comedian for 38 years and I’ve never seen it, like Lenny Bruce said at the Purple Onion, ‘We’ve gone backwards.’ There are things you can’t say. There are things you shouldn’t say,” Tim continued. “Who makes up these rules? And as a stand-up comic, it’s a dangerous position to be in because I like pushing buttons. It’s unfortunate.”

The Roseanne reboot was cancelled by ABC after Roseanne‘s racist tweets.

“I’ve worked for ABC for years…I don’t really believe it was a political decision,” Tim added. “I think it was a financial decision…I thought it was done very poorly, that’s my point of view. I was heartbroken.”

“I’ve apologized a lot. It’s been two months. I’ve apologized and explained and asked for forgiveness,” Roseanne said. “I was so sad that people thought [the tweet] was racist. And I went into the whole discussion of racism and that blew my mind because it was so much what the show I was doing was about. Why couldn’t they see my work?”

Roseanne went on to address President Obama’s adviser Valerie Jarrett directly where she tried to explain why she said what she tweeted.

“I didn’t know she was African-American. I assumed because she was from Iran and she lived in Iran for such a long time,” Roseanne said. “If she’s watching, I’m so sorry you thought I was racist and you thought that my tweet was racist because it wasn’t. It was political. I’m sorry for the misunderstanding that caused my ill-worded tweet. I’m sorry that you feel harmed and hurt, I never meant that. For that, I apologize. I never meant to hurt anybody or say anything negative about an entire race of people. My 30 years of work can attest to that.”

When Sean brought up Roseanne‘s past tweets about Catholics along with her Nazi photo shoot, Roseanne joked,” “I hate everyone equally. Everybody deserves to be joked about. Anyone in any kind of position of power deserves to have a joke about them. If they can’t laugh at themselves, that means something.”

“I’m so sad that anyone thinks that of me, but I’m not that person. I was going through a very hard time,” Roseanne continued. “I didn’t [know better]. I made a mistake. It cost me everything, my life’s work. I wish I worded it better.”

Roseanne Barr Is 'Disgusted' Over Support James Gunn Is Receiving

Roseanne Barr is not happy with the support James Gunn is receiving for his deleted tweets about pedophilia.

Roseanne took to Twitter to write, “I’m disgusted to read all of the support for James Gunn’s pedophile jokes-as the same people supported blacklisting me for a joke they didn’t even understand.”

She, of course, referenced her racist tweet that caused her to get Roseanne cancelled by ABC.

If you missed it, James was fired from Guardians of the Galaxy after his tweets resurfaced many years later. He’s received support from Dave Bautista, Selma Blair, and more.
