Katharine McPhee Shares the Key to Her Relationship with David Foster, Talks How They Handle Differences in Parenting Styles

Katharine McPhee is opening up about life with husband David Foster!

The 39-year-old entertainer is currently promoting her and David‘s new Christmas album and her new jewelry line, Radiance by Absolute™ x Katharine McPhee.

Katharine was asked to share the secret to making her marriage work and she also opened up about parenting her two-year-old son Rennie.

“Therapy. A good therapist,” Katharine told E! News about the key to her relationship. “Or that you just have someone in your life or another couple in your life that is helpful when there’s discord, disagreements.”

“I really feel like you can talk through most everything, but you have to have the language, the vocabulary to do that. So that takes practice and self-awareness and having skills to facilitate those conversations,” she continued.

“We met each other 18 years ago in this exact space—like a recording studio, in a work environment,” she said. “So, that’s truly where we know each other the best is knowing the ease, and the greatness, and the way he works and just always gets the best thing out of people.”

Katharine talked to Us Weekly about her and David‘s differences in parenting styles.

“We just have different ways of approaching the boundaries,” she said. “I would say I’m more of that newer generation of gentle parenting and explaining and having a bit more patience in just a new way than what I think the older generation was taught how to parent.”

They do agree on something though!

“We don’t put up with any BS,” she said. “We don’t want him to be an A-hole. He [needs] to be nice, polite, obedient, have his own voice and all that, but just [be] a good kid.”
