Pierce Brosnan Honors Sean Connery After His Passing: 'You Were My Greatest James Bond'

Pierce Brosnan is paying tribute to Sean Connery.

The 67-year-old actor took to Instagram on Saturday (October 31) to remember Sean after it was announced that he had passed away at the age of 90.

“Sir Sean Connery, you were my greatest James Bond as a boy, and as a man who became James Bond himself,” Pierce wrote. “You cast a long shadow of cinematic splendor that will live on forever. You led the way for us all who followed in your iconic foot steps. Each man in his turn looked to you with reverence and admiration as we forged ahead with our own interpretations of the role.”

“You were mighty in every way, as an actor and as a man, and will remain so till the end of time,” Pierce continued. “Your were loved by the world, and will be missed. God bless, rest now, be at peace.”

Connery was the first actor to portray James Bond, and he starred in seven 007 movies, beginning with Dr. No in 1962.

Pierce was the fifth actor to play the Bond, starring in four films in the franchise from 1995 to 2002.

Current James Bond Daniel Craig also paid tribute to Sean Connery after his death.

Pierce Brosnan Reveals How He Feels Today About Being Replaced as James Bond

In 2004, Pierce Brosnan was told that he would no longer be playing James Bond and the franchise would be looking for a new leading man.

At the time, Pierce, who starred in four Bond movies, said he was “utterly shocked and just kicked to the curb with the way it went down.”

Now, he has a different view of what happened.

“There’s no regret,” he told The Telegraph. “I do not let regret come into my world … It just leads to more misery and more regrets.”

“Bond is the gift that keeps giving and has allowed me to have a wonderful career. Once you’re branded as a Bond, it’s with you for ever, so you better make peace with it and you’d better understand that when you walk through those doors and pick up the mantle of playing James Bond,” he continued.

Daniel Craig eventually took over the role. Daniel himself made some shocking comments about playing Bond at one point, before eventually signing on for more movies.

Pierce has been isolating in his family’s cottage on Kauai, Hawaii with his wife Keely amid the global health crisis following the shutdown of his current project, Disney’s Cinderella.

“I was on a plane the next day. I was told I might not get out, and I wanted to be with my family,” he said.

“I lost two friends to COVID-19. They were friends of 45 years, and I am godfather to his son. No matter where you are and how beautiful it may be, you still have this awful threat to life looming. You have to keep pushing the rock uphill, and you have to keep involved in life. We are at war. People are dying. Hopefully after all this, there will be more kindness and more awareness of the fragility of our planet,” he went on to reveal.

We have tragically lost several stars already due to coronavirus.
