Salman Rushdie is returning to the spotlight for the first time in nine months, when he was stabbed on stage at an event.

The 75-year-old novelist made an appearance at the 2023 PEN America Literary Gala on Thursday night (May 18) at the American Museum of Natural History in New York City.

Salman was joined on the red carpet by his wife Rachel Eliza Griffiths.

More celebs in attendance included Alec Baldwin and his wife Hilaria, Sex in the City author Candace Bushnell, Emily Ratajkowski, comedian John Mulaney, and SNL‘s Colin Jost, Fred Armisen, and Lorne Michaels.

“I feel great,” Salman said at the event (via the New York Daily News). “I have a long association with PEN America and I’m just happy to be amongst writers and book people.”

Author Salman Rushdie has shared his first photo after he was attacked on stage and stabbed “about a dozen” times before a planned speech in August 2022 in western New York.

A few months ago, his literary agent Andrew Wylie said in a statement (via CNN), “[His wounds] were profound, but he’s [also] lost the sight of one eye … He had three serious wounds in his neck. One hand is incapacitated because the nerves in his arm were cut. And he has about 15 more wounds in his chest and torso. So, it was a brutal attack.”

J.K. Rowling is getting threats.

The Harry Potter author recently expressed concern for author Salman Rushdie, who was attacked on stage in New York.

“Feeling very sick right now. Let him be ok,” she wrote on Twitter, to which a user replied: “Don’t worry you are next.” She then tweeted at Twitter Support directly with “any chance of some support?” and added that the “Police are involved.”

Warner Bros. Discovery is now issuing a statement.

The man suspected in stabbing author Salman Rushdie has been arrested.

On Friday (August 12), the 75-year-old renowned author was attacked on stage moments before giving a lecture at the Chautauqua Institution in western New York.

Salman was rushed then rushed to the hospital with an apparent stab wound to the neck.

The day after the stabbing, 24-year-old Hadi Matar from Fairview, New Jersey was arrested for attempted murder in the second degree and assault in the second degree.
