Simone Manuel Wins Silver Medal in Women's 50m Freestyle!

Simone Manuel gives a thumbs-up as she celebrates her U.S. victory after winning the women’s 50-meter freestyle final race at the 2016 Rio Summer Olympics at Aquatics Stadium on Saturday (August 13).

Two days earlier, the 20-year-old swimmer became the first African-American woman to win an individual medal in swimming for the United States!

Pernille Blume of Denmark earned gold with 24.07 seconds, and Aliaksandra Herasimenia of Belarus won the bronze in 24.11 seconds.

Simone will also be competing in the 4×100 medley relay with Dana Vollmer, Lilly King and Kathleen Baker.
