'Stranger Things' Creators Explains Why They Don't Kill Off Main Characters Like 'Game of Thrones' Did

The creators of Stranger Things are responding to criticism for not killing off any of the main characters in the show.

Fans of Game of Thrones have become used to seeing their favorite characters be killed off in shocking moments, but that hasn’t happened yet on Stranger Things.

Even the show’s star Millie Bobby Brown has criticized the Duffer Brothers for not killing off anyone yet.

“It’s way too big,” Millie previously said about the size of the cast. “Last night [at the premiere], we couldn’t even take one group picture because there were like 50 of us. I was like, you need to start killing people off. The Duffer brothers are two sensitive Sallies that don’t want to kill anyone off. We need to be Game of Thrones. We need to have the mindset of Game of Thrones.”

Here’s what the creators of Stranger Things had to say…

In a new interview, Matt Duffer responded to the comments that Millie made back in May.

Matt told the Happy Sad Confused podcast, “What did Millie call us? She said we were ‘sensitive Sallies.’ She’s hilarious. Believe us, we’ve explored all options in the writing room. Just as a complete hypothetical, if you kill Mike, it’s like. … That’s depressing. … We aren’t Game of Thrones. This is Hawkins, it’s not Westeros. The show becomes not Stranger Things anymore, because you do have to treat it realistically, right?”

One new season four character was killed off this year and the creators revealed that another new character was almost killed off as well.
