Zac Efron: Bye Bye, Disney

Zac Efron: Bye Bye, Disney

Zac Efron picks up some lunch to-go on Monday (April 30) in Los Angeles.

The 24-year-old actor is back in town after promoting his movie, The Lucky One, in Europe with co-star Taylor Schilling.

Later this year, Zac will hit the big screen with Nicole Kidman and Matthew McConaughey in The Paperboy.

“Bye bye, Disney,” director Lee Daniels told USA Today about Zac‘s role – a departure from his High School Musical days.

“I have to say that I was nervous in the beginning about working with him,” Lee added, “and I was completely wrong from day one … His timing, his humor, his instinct, is extraordinary.”

FYI: Zac is wearing an Abbot + Main shirt.

“and I was completely wrong from day one … His timing, his humor, his instinct, is extraordinary.”

That’s because acting is easy. Seriously, there are unknowns in small towns that play their parts to perfection. Hollywood has fooled us all into thinking acting is some incredible talent. It’s not.

  • MARI

why are they insisting to make him some star when he isn’t,the lucky one is a box office flop, on his 2 week and the movie just made 9 milion more than his budget ,and the critics give it bad reviews from day its had to belive he is a good actor, this guy will say anything to sell his movie

  • adam

  • Revenge-Is-Sweet

Has just one of the haters here, read the whole article? I guess, when I say NO, I’m totally right.

    From the article:
Director Lee Daniels (Precious) says Efron’s title role, played alongside Matthew McConaughey as the two chase a murder case in Florida in 1969, will surprise his fan base.

“Bye bye, Disney,” says Daniels, who was initially against casting Efron in the dark film due to his squeaky-clean image. “I have to say that I was nervous in the beginning about working with him, and I was completely wrong from day one. … His timing, his humor, his instinct, is extraordinary.”

So, Daniels said he was against casting Zac, then why did he anyway? That’s the million Dollar question. Zac is a good actor even though all the haters and jerks here will hate me for that, and guess what I don’t care about that. He is working very hard for everything and pretty much all of you could take him as a role model. He never gives up and does everything to reach the goal. He’s not like the most of people who give up because there are some problems. Problems are there to be solved and not avoid them.

  • veronica

    shia labeouf wanna be

  • kami

i think this will be a good movie.

  • R U sure

TLO is not a flop you don’t even have your figures right . Plenty of people enjoy his movies and could care less what you haters think. He has a small part in Liberal Arts , and he is getting very good reviews. I liked The Lucky one very much and The Paperboy even better.

  • allessia

@veronica: he only can dream to be like shia.he and ryan gosling the only two from disney that made it in hollywood.zac efron should just give up ,he is a mediocre actor

  • MARI

@R U sure: no you have your figures all wrong, the movie budget is 25,000,000 .in his first week the movie did 22,518,358.that means it did 2 and half milion less than than it budget .now this week it made $11.3M that means the movie grossed 8.5M .so basically it’s a flop

  • david

OMG are you all arguing about zac efron? that cracks me up ,he doesn’t worth it,you all should try doing something useful of your time.and stop talking about this loser.basically you all need to get a life

  • vic

check out zefron was on graham norton show with matt leblanc while in london and the videos/stories were really funny

  • BloodbuzzOhio

Well exactly is he going to shed this Disney image if he just starred in a crappy Nicholas Sparks adaptation? I swear to god, he says he wants a credible career and he does that.

  • Bunnylover

@MARI: So it isn’t making any money elsewhere in the world? Or do you think that US is the only place that matters? Some of you people need to rein back the hate and have a look at the facts. TLO hasn’t even been released in a lot of places yet.@david: We are not argueing. The hater’s are spouting uninformed rubbish and people are ignoring them. :)

  • R U sure

@Mari you are wrong The movie has made over 39 Million in not even two weeks. (10 days) . A movie doesn’t have to make all it’s money back the first week to be called a hit. It has plenty of weeks left yet to run. I believe , I wont swear to it that your production costs are to high. Even if they are right the movie still hasn’t opened in most parts of the world.

  • ?

He reminds me of Leo DiCaprio sometimes. Trying to hard to get away from the image the media labeled him as. Same Loverboy type. I’m glad hes not ignoring romantic movies completely yet still tries different roles. I guess he only cut off musical’s,which isn’t terrible, still love to hear him sing.
Leo on the other hand still sticks to traumatic characters, always serious. It won’t hurt him to be in a romantic comedy or just play a light-hearted movie. except Djano where he plays a Lillian

Zac is a young hard-working serious actor just like everyone else in this business who wants to be successful. It just so happens that in showbusiness one is constantly in the limelight, scrutinized, and judged. Zac deserves to be appreciated just like any human being who works genuinely hard. Imagine if you were in his shoes and you get these negative judgemental comments. Zac will keep working hard until he gets a lot of experience and maturity then he will eventually get the respect he deserves.

  • sjk

Ha ha you guys are hilarious! So bitter. Zac is still here still getting noticed and still making money. Loved TLO and can’t wait for more from this fabulous man. Hope you guys feel better soon. Being positive and encouraging can actually help your physical health.

  • AG

Why are you all hating on someone you don’t even know? Exactly: you don’t know him, you’ve never met him, he hasn’t done anything to you, so you have no right be bash him and be so hateful! Please, take a look in the mirror before you criticize someone for doing his job and living his life. And, while you’re at it, take those sticks out of your asses, since you seem to have nothing better to do with your lives than to bash someone who seems to be so insignificant to you!! If you don’t like Zac, then get the hell off of this thread!!!! It’s as simple as that!

  • AG

*to be bashing him and to be so hateful.

  • anonymous

wow zac always gets the most comments on each article

  • crrl

Always have and always will be a huge fan of this man. Not only is he gorgeous but he is talented. Im proud to see him growing as an actor. And AG I couldn’t have said it better myself. Never understood why people bother to read the comments AND post about someone they claim to dislike so much. And we need to get a life?

  • rikki

He’s handsome, and that’s what fuels his career. No different than many other actors out there. I have seen only three movies he has done, so I guess I shouldn’t judge, but it seems like he is just mediocre. Certainly not terrible onscreen… but he’s never given an outstanding performance.

  • Bunnylover

@rikki: Have you seen ‘Me and Orson Welles’ and ‘Miracle Run’? two of his best!

  • My 2 cents

I am a big fan of Zac he is charming and like it or not he has the “It” factor. Every role that he takes on he gives it his all and he learns from every director which adds up to more and more experience. He is not playing it safe and he is taking diverse parts. Oscar award nominated directors that he has worked with praise his work ethic and his performances. They don’t have to say that, and they would not unless they believed in him. I feel Zac is getting better and better as he grows older and he will be a force to reckon with.

  • Truth

Are they still trying to make Zac Efron happen? He’s not gonna happen.

The only thing this kid has going for him is his heartthrob status and his looks, both of which are slipping through his fingers. He has one facial expression and it basically involves him staring blankly off into the distance for an hour and a half. People are bored. Even his chick flicks are struggling and no one takes him seriously as a real actor. He’ll be proving himself for the rest of his short-lived career.

  • Revenge-Is-Sweet

@MARI: TLO was a flop? Well then you’re a flop as well. The movie is at the moment at $39,409,719 and that’s only from the US, now add the money that the movie made in the countries where it’s already released. And there are a lot of countries that still have to wait for the release in the theaters, big countries like France are still waiting for release date but they will get one soon.

Here are a few countries where the TLO will hit the theaters next: Ireland 2 May 2012
    UK 2 May 2012
    Argentina 3 May 2012
    Chile 3 May 2012
    Croatia 3 May 2012
    Brazil 4 May 2012
    Mexico 4 May 2012
    Russia 17 May 2012
    Spain 25 May 2012
    Belgium 6 June 2012
    Denmark 7 June 2012
    Netherlands 7 June 2012
    Poland 15 June 2012
    Japan 16 June 2012
    Greece 21 June 2012
    Hong Kong 28 June 2012
    Portugal 19 July 2012
    Norway 3 August 2012

And I wouldn’t underestimate the countries like UK, Brazil, Japan, and some other countries too. He has a lot of fans there. And just because you don’t like him, it doesn’t make the movie a flop and it gives you no right to talk about him as if he is peace of shit, because that’s exactly the way that you and all the haters here treat him. He’s taking risks to get better, how often did you something like that? And he is someone who wants to learn the more the better. He doesn’t step back when it comes to problems, the most people do that, he’s facing them.

  • MARI

@Revenge-Is-Sweet: be realistic its a well known fact the big movie market is usa.if the movie doesn’t have success in usa that means it floped everyone know that

  • 14marshmallow21

ZAC LOOKS SO LONELY WITHOUT VANESSA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! =p I MISS ZANESSA SO MUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! =D

  • Rachel

That’s very nice to hear from Lee Daniels that Zac did a good job :)
    And he looks great here:D

  • Revenge-Is-Sweet

@MARI: The U.S. are a big market but not the world. Should I prove you wrong. Let’s take Sucker Punch, it wasn’t a big success in the U.S. but it got better reviews and more money outside of the U.S.
    Production Budget: $82 million
    Opening Weekend: $19,058,199
    Domestic: $36,392,502
    + Foreign: $53,400,000
    = Worldwide: $89,792,502

    Production Budget: $25 million
    Domestic: $39,409,719
    + Foreign: $10,300,000
    = Worldwide: $49,709,719

So, The Lucky One isn’t a flop. And the only big countries, besides the U.S., where TLO is already released are: Australia, Germany, Italy … You are one of them who doesn’t like him and criticize him for everything he’s doing. We all will see how’s The Paperboy doing in Cannes and there counts what the whole main cast, the director, producer achieved and not only one actor or actress.

  • Bunnylover

@MARI: Oh thank you soooo much! you brainless twat! Lovely to know that the whole rest of the world doesn’t count!!!

  • Bunnylover

@MARI: Oh! And what about Bollywood? Their movies do a lot better than a lot of films from elsewhere.

  • R U sure

@MARI I guess I don’t have to say how wrong you are , everybody else did that. So I’ll just say next time try to think before you say somethng stupid.

  • savannah

Well I enjoyed The lucky one very much and I can’t wait for The Paperboy! Keep it up Zac!

  • Lana

I love him. I absolutely him. I have never paid so much attention on him till last year. He is a good actor. Claire Danes said he will be the new Leo DiCaprio and I think she is right. From heartthorb teen to serious actor. Can‘t wait for The Paperboy.

TAKE BACK JJ Zac Fans – YEAH!

Of course he’s an excellent actor; some people would rather die than admit it, however.
