Sam Worthington lost out on a job to Ryan Reynolds after the breakout success of Avatar.
The 46-year-old Avatar: The Way of Water actor was up for the lead role in Ryan‘s critically panned Green Lantern, which was released in 2011.
However, looking back on it now, it doesn’t sound like he was into the role. Sam opened up about the project in a new interview.

Sam Worthington has been sober for eight years, and he is shedding light on his struggles with alcohol addiction.
The 46-year-old actor found breakout success after landing a leading role as Jake Sully in 2009′s Avatar. However, he discussed how his experience with fame became overwhelming and influenced an unhealthy relationship with alcohol.
The star opened up about what drove him to sobriety in a recent interview.

The cast of Avatar: The Way of Water stepped out in full force for the film’s L.A. premiere!
Sam Worthingon, Zoe Saldana, and more walked the carpet at the Dolby Theater on Monday night (December 12) in Hollywood.
More cast members in attendance included Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, Joel David Moore, Jamie Flatters, Britain Dalton, Trinity Jo-Li Bliss, Jack Champion, and Bailey Bass, as well as producer Jon Landau and Disney CEO Bob Iger.
The film’s director James Cameron was unable to attend after he tested positive for COVID-19.
Set more than a decade after the events of the first film, Avatar: The Way of Water begins to tell the story of the Sully family (Jake, Neytiri, and their kids), the trouble that follows them, the lengths they go to keep each other safe, the battles they fight to stay alive, and the tragedies they endure.
The movie hits theaters on Friday!

Zoe Saldana stands out in a sparkly silver dress at the premiere of her new movie, Avatar: The Way of Water, in Tokyo!
The 44-year-old actress joined co-stars Sam Worthington, Sigourney Weaver, and Stephen Lang, along with James Cameron and Jon Landau at Toho Cinemas Hibiya Midtown in Japan on Saturday (December 10).
The Avatar cast have been globe trotting in support of the flick, with their first stops being in Sydney, and London. Their most recent stop was in South Korea.
Set more than a decade after the events of the first film, Avatar: The Way of Water begins to tell the story of the Sully family (Jake, Neytiri, and their kids), the trouble that follows them, the lengths they go to keep each other safe, the battles they fight to stay alive, and the tragedies they endure.
The movie will be out in theaters on Friday, December 16.

The stars of the Avatar sequel are continuing their press tour!
Zoe Saldana, Sam Worthington, Sigourney Weaver, and Stephen Lang stepped out for the premiere of Avatar: The Way of Water on Friday (December 9) in Seoul, South Korea.
Also in attendance was the film’s writer and director James Cameron along with Sam‘s wife Lara Worthington.
A few days earlier, all of the stars attended the world premiere of the highly-anticipated movie in London.

The stars of the new movie Avatar: The Way of Water stepped out for the world premiere event!
Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, and Kate Winslet were among the celebs at the red carpet screening on Tuesday (December 6) at Odeon Luxe Leicester Square in London England.
Also in attendance were co-stars Sigourney Weaver and Stephen Lang, as well as writer and director James Cameron.
They were all joined by Sam‘s wife Lara, Zoe‘s husband Marco Perego, Stephen‘s wife Kristina Watson, and James‘ wife Suzy Amis Cameron.
While introducing the movie on stage, James told the crowd, “Thanks for coming. I don’t know about you, this is a pretty surreal moment for me that we are done with the film. Five years of production and five years spanning a really dark period. The pandemic hit, we were shut down completely. I was despairing this art form I love that I dedicated four decades to was over. We finally got back to work but we didn’t know if there would be movie theaters. Was it over? But here we are,” according to Deadline.
He added, “Theaters are full again and moviegoers of the world have declared resoundingly that we need this. We need this ability to gather together to sit in these great dark spaces and to dream together with our eyes wide open in a cinema. To me tonight is not about a new Avatar film. It’s about cinema, and here you are in your black-tie finery. It’s a celebration of this art form that we love so much. It’s back it’s alive and it’s as great as it’s ever been.”
James recently explained the surprising reason why the Na’vi people in Avatar are blue.

The stars of Avatar: The Way of Water are ready for the movie’s premiere!
Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Kate Winslet, and Sigourney Weaver joined James Cameron at the photo call for the event held at The Corinthia Hotel on Sunday (December 4) in London, England.
The quartet of stars and director were also joined by co-stars Stephen Lang, James Flatters, Bailey Bass, Trinity Jo-Li Bliss, Jack Champion, and Jon Landau at the photo call.
In a recent interview, James opened up about when viewers will be able to take a bathroom break during the three hour movie.
