'Spider-Man: Homecoming' Opens Huge With $117 Million Debut
Spider-Man: Homecoming easily topped this weekend’s box office with a massive $117 million debut!
According to THR – the film starring Tom Holland, Zendaya, Michael Keaton, and Robert Downey Jr. – earned the third-best U.S. opening this year behind Beauty and the Beast ($174.8 million) and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 ($146.5 million).
Coming in at No. 2 was Steve Carell and Kristen Wiig‘s animated flick, Despicable Me 3, which made an additional $34 million for a domestic total of $149.2 million so far.
Taking the third spot was Baby Driver, starring Jamie Foxx and Ansel Elgort, which brought in $12.8 million for a 12-day total of $56.9 million.
Rounding out the top five were Wonder Woman and Transformers: The Last Knight, grossing $10.1 million and $6.3 million, respectively.
Meanwhile, Kumail Nanjiani‘s film The Big Sick expanded into 326 theaters and earned $3.7 million for a domestic total of $6.9 million so far.
