GLAAD Responds to Matt Damon's Statement About the F-Word
GLAAD, the leading LGBTQ advocacy organization accelerating acceptance and equality, is weighing in on the controversial comments made by Matt Damon.
In a recent interview, Matt seemingly admitted that he had been using the “F-slur” until just a few months ago when his daughter told him that the term was offensive.
Matt later spoke out again on Monday (August 2) in a lengthy statement to clear up the comments he made. He said in the new statement that he has never used the slur and that he was explaining to his daughter how people used it in his hometown.

GLAAD’s Head of Talent, Anthony Allen Ramos, just released the following statement in response to Matt‘s comments.
Anthony said, “The conversations that have arisen after Matt Damon’s original interview and subsequent remarks today are an important reminder that this word, or any word that aims to disparage and disrespect LGBTQ people, has no place in mainstream media, social media, classrooms, workplaces, and beyond. There needs to be accountability at a time when anti-LGBTQ slurs remain rampant today and can fuel discrimination and stereotypes, especially when used by those outside of the community to defame or describe LGBTQ people.”
Matt recently made comments about his friend Ben Affleck‘s new relationship.
