Host Josh Brubaker, aka Bru, began by asking Russell how his year has been so far.

“Dude, it’s been a crazy year,” he replied. “Like, it started off with such like, we’re back, we’re doing it, 2021. I mean, we started playing shows, like, we had a whole fall tour booked. We were ready, bro but then the fall tour actually canceled sadly and so that kind of throws a little wrench and everything but we filled in dates here and there.”

He also added that he had recently taken his son Remington, who he shares with wife Kailey, to Disney World to celebrate his 1st birthday.

“We just took our bus down there for a week and literally just like parked at the Disney campgrounds and we just hung out. We raged at Disney, man,” he joked. “We went hard. We were like pretty much open to close, just blowing his mind with Disney magic.”

Bru also asked if it was still true that Russell uses his own music to calm Remington down.

“It’s still true,” the “Blue Tacoma” singer said. “It’s getting less true, sadly. He’s obsessed with Coco Melon right now.”

He continued, “But yeah, it’s still it’s like my song ‘Southern Symphony…’ If he’s crying in the car seat and whatever we just put that song on and as soon as he hears that guitar riff, he’s like, all right, yeah, cool. I’m good.”

“So many exciting things happening, got the baby, got a happy life, the headlining
tour,” Bru said later in the interview. “What title if you had to do like, if it was a book, what title would you give this chapter of your life?”

Russell replied, “The first thing that comes to mind is like ‘Hard work pays off.’ I mean, we absolutely started from the bottom. Like, I didn’t get a record deal until, like, way later. Nobody would sign me. So we were like, well, we’re going to shoot a music video and by ourselves, my wife shot it on a back road in Nashville. It might be like, ‘Believing yourself when nobody else will.’”
