Katy Perry Says Hearing Olivia Rodrigo Reference Her Music Makes Her Feel 'Old'

In a new interview with Out Magazine to discuss her upcoming Las Vegas residency, the 37-year-old performer opened up about what it’s been like hearing references to some of her biggest hits incorporated into newer tracks.

When told that “a new generation of artists is inspired by her work,” Katy said it makes her feel “old” to see references to her lyrics in new songs.

Olivia Rodrigo is a prime example, singing, “where’s my f–king teenage dream” on her track “brutal.” Fletcher also samples Katy‘s hit “I Kissed a Girl” on her song “girls girls girls.”

“Old,” Katy laughed. “Honestly, old! And grateful that I survived it and grateful I’m not dead in a ditch somewhere. Wow, it’s coming all the way back around.”

“Things are nostalgic? What?” she quipped. “It feels like yesterday, especially when people are like, ‘Oh my gosh I used to listen to you when I was a kid’ and they’re like full-on adults with kids.”

She went on to say that it’s “awesome” to see her music take on a second life.

“It means that the music is still resonating. It means that the message still rings true for people,” she said. “It’s fun! It’s wonderful to have that stamp.”

Katy also voiced her excitement for her Las Vegas residency, describing it as the “kookiest, most camp show” she’s ever done.

“It’s just gonna be a feast for both the ears and the eyes and it is like the most laughter I’ve had in a rehearsal setting ever in my life. My co-creators and collaborators and the dancers and the band, everybody’s just like, ‘This is the kookiest idea,’” she told Out.
