K-Pop's Kep1er Goes From Reality TV to Global Superstardom (Interview)

The world helped put Kep1er together. And now, the K-pop girl group is ready to meet the fans around the globe who helped to make it happen.

Last year, survival reality TV series Girls Planet 999 saw talented trainees hailing from China, Japan and Korea competing to become one of the nine members of the troupe. Viewers, dubbed “Planet Guardians,” voted week to week to protect the dreams of their favorite contestants, until the group’s final roster was ultimately revealed in October.

Following Kep1er‘s highly anticipated First Impact at the start of January, including catchy debut single “Wa Da Da,” which has gone on to become one of the Top 10 most viewed videos of the year, the group went right back into competition mode, battling against veteran acts on Queendom 2, along with releasing their follow-up EP, Doublast.

Now, with their Japanese debut Fly-Up scheduled for September, Kep1er is currently in the United States making their first appearance at KCON LA 2022 in Los Angeles.

We had a chance to catch up with the group to discuss their whirlwind success, what happened behind-the-scenes on their reality TV shows and music video sets, and how they’re preparing for their next moves.
