Madam Secretary's Erich Bergen Sets His Broadway Return, Will Play Billy Flynn in 'Chicago'

Erich Bergen will be back on Broadway this summer!

The Madam Secretary actor will be playing the iconic role of Billy Flynn in the long-running musical Chicago.

Erich is no stranger to Broadway after playing Dr. Pomatter during multiple stints in the musical Waitress. He also starred in the film version of the Tony-winning musical Jersey Boys.

Chicago is currently celebrating its 25th year on Broadway and Erich will be joining the cast on August 1 for a limited run through September 11.

Erich jokingly wrote on Instagram, “I was told I was playing Roxie but I can work with this. #broadway.” Ana Villafane, who played Roxie during Chicago‘s return to Broadway last year, commented, “I’d pay big $$ for ur Roxie but if I don’t get a bootleg of ur Billy — we’re finished.”

David Foster, his wife Katharine McPhee, and their friends raised so much money this weekend!

The 16-time Grammy-winning songwriter and entertainer hosted the David Foster Foundation Gala: A Night on Broadway on Saturday (May 7) at Hotel X Toronto by Library Hotel Collection in Toronto, Canada.

The David Foster Foundation is dedicated to providing financial support to Canadian families with children in need of life-saving organ transplants. In addition to helping families with their non-medical expenses, the Foundation strives to increase public awareness and education about the importance of becoming a registered organ donor in Canada and the United States.

David, Kat, and their celeb friends performed songs from the Broadway songbook to raise money for the foundation’s incredible work. Joining them were Kat‘s Smash co-star Leslie Odom Jr., her Waitress co-star Erich Bergen, The Greatest Showman‘s Loren Allred, and Broadway stars Kara Lindsay and Jessica Vosk.

Billy Crystal Gets Support from Tina Fey, Steve Martin & More at 'Mr. Saturday Night' Broadway Opening!

Billy Crystal is official back on Broadway!

The legendary actor celebrated the opening night of his new musical Mr. Saturday Night on Wednesday (April 27) at the Nederlander Theatre in New York City.

Billy posed with co-stars Shoshana Bean, Randy Graff, and more while backstage after the show.

Mr. Saturday Night, based on the movie of the same name, is the story of Buddy Young Jr., an outrageous and outspoken comedian who found fame, if not fortune, in the early days of television. Now, some 40 years after his TV career flamed out, Buddy seeks one more shot at the spotlight, and while he’s at it, one last shot at fixing the family he fractured along the way.

Some of the celebs who stepped out to see the opening night performance included Tina Fey and her husband Jeff Richmond, Only Murders in the Building co-stars Steve Martin and Martin Short, Jimmy Fallon, Erich Bergen, Victor Garber, and Debra Monk.

Katharine McPhee & David Foster Help Their Friend Clive Davis Celebrate His 90th Birthday!

Katharine McPhee and David Foster are back on the red carpet for a good reason!

The married couple stepped out to attend Clive Davis’ 90th Birthday Celebration on Wednesday night (April 6) at Casa Cipriani in New York City.

David hosted the second half of the evening, which featured performances from stars like Barry Manilow (pictured in the gallery with Clive), Kenny G, Art Garfunkel, Dionne Warwick, and more.

Gayle King was at the event to interview Clive on stage for the first half of the event. Among the stars on the carpet was Sex and the City creator Candace Bushnell, who is pictured in the gallery.

The event was produced by Erich Bergen, who starred alongside Kat in Broadway’s Waitress, and Marc Johnston, who is David‘s longtime manager. They also executive produced the four-part series Clive Davis: Most Iconic Performances, which is streaming now on Paramount+.

'Sex and the City' Creator Candace Bushnell Celebrates Opening of Her One-Woman Play!

Candace Bushnell, the creator of Sex and the City, just opened her one-woman play in New York City!

The best-selling author’s book “Sex and the City” was published in 1997 and it was turned into an HBO series one year later.

Candace was joined by friend Brooke Shields and the Sex and the City TV show’s creator Darren Star at the opening night performance of Is There Still Sex in the City on Tuesday night (December 7) at the Daryl Roth Theater in New York City.

Also in attendance at the opening night were Martha Stewart, Andrew McCarthy, Madam Secretary‘s Erich Bergen, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit‘s Stephanie March, and Real Housewives of New York City‘s Kelly Bensimon. Candace also posed on the red carpet with producers Marc Johnston, Josh Fiedler, Robyn Goodman, and Alex Fraser.

Here is the show’s synopsis: “From her arrival in New York City alone with $20 in her pocket, to working her way up the ladder, to secrets behind the creation of Sex and the City and finding herself single again in her 50’s … the always provocative Candace Bushnell shares her fabulous philosophy through stories of fashion, literature, sex, and New York City, while pouring Cosmos in Manolos.”

Broadway Stars, Including Lin-Manuel Miranda & Sara Bareilles, Gather in Times Square to Sing Sondheim's 'Sunday' (Video)

Many of Broadway’s biggest stars gathered in Times Square on Sunday (November 28) to honor the life and legacy of late composer Stephen Sondheim, two days after his death.

Lin-Manuel Miranda, Sara Bareilles and boyfriend Joe Tippett, Josh Groban, Laura Benanti, Brian Stokes Mitchell, and many more performers gathered on the iconic red steps in Duffy Square to perform the song “Sunday” from the Sondheim musical Sunday in the Park with George.

The event was produced by Erich Bergen, who just wrapped his third stint in the Broadway musical Waitress, and conducted by Michael J. Moritz.

More participants included Raul Esparaza, Celia Keenan-Bolger, Wilson Cruz, Brandon Uranowitz, Judy Kuhn, Hadestown stars Reeve Carney and Eva Noblezada, Jagged Little Pill stars Lauren Patten, Kathryn Gallagher, Morgan Dudley, and Heidi Blickenstaff, Six‘s Abby Mueller, Gossip Girl‘s Adam Chanler-Berat and Tavi Gevinson (who are both currently in the Assassins revival Off-Broadway), and Diana‘s Roe Hartrampf and Erin Davie.

Get Your First Look of Jennifer Nettles in 'Waitress' on Broadway!

Jennifer Nettles is heading back to Broadway in the hit musical Waitress and the first photo of her as Jenna has been released!

The country singer, who is best known as the lead vocalist of Sugarland, has previously appeared on Broadway in Chicago and she did the musical Mamma Mia at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles.

Jennifer joins the cast of Broadway’s Waitress on October 19, taking over for the show’s composer Sara Bareilles, who is leaving the show after a seven-week run in the musical.

It was just announced that Madam Secretary actor Erich Bergen will be joining Jennifer in Waitress, reprising his role as love interest Dr. Pomatter. He previously played the role in 2018 and 2019.

Erich will perform a limited run from October 19-24 and again November 1-7. Jennifer remains with the show until November 24.

“It’s a character I love, a show I love, and a community I love,” Erich told THR. “The only thing better than seeing a Broadway show is being in one, and as a theatre kid who grew up in New York City, to be a part of Broadway’s reopening means more to me than you can imagine.”
