Betty Boop Musical Casts Newcomer Jasmine Amy Rogers, Erich Bergen, & Faith Prince for World Premiere Production!

BOOP! The Betty Boop Musical will have its world premiere production in Chicago at the end of the year and full casting has been announced!

Newcomer Jasmine Amy Rogers is taking on the lead role of Betty Boop.

“Those are huge shoes to fill, but I’m in such a great company. I have so many people around me that are helping me find her and bring her to life, and so it’s really, really exciting,” she told the Associated Press.

Tony winner Faith Prince, Madam Secretary actor Erich Bergen, Aladdin‘s Ainsley Melham, Boardwalk Empire‘s Stephen DeRosa, and Waitress actress Anastacia McCleskey round out the lead cast for the upcoming pre-Broadway run.

The music for the show was written by 16-time Grammy-winning composer David Foster and Tony-nominated lyricist Susan Birkenhead. The show features a book by Tony-winning writer Bob Martin, best known for The Drowsy Chaperone and The Prom.

Director Jerry Mitchell said, “The character is one of those indomitable spirits that just can’t be broken. There’s one thing missing in her life, and it’s love. And she doesn’t even know what it is because she’s never experienced it in any of her shorts. So she goes on this journey to find it.”

On casting Jasmine in the lead role, Jerry said, “I remember even when she first auditioned for me for that there was something about her — that ‘it’ thing. They walk in and they’ve got that ‘it’ thing and you watch them and you go, ‘That’s the person.’ I was looking for moxie. I was looking for effervescence. There’s a song at the end of the first act, and when she sang the song, she just made me cry, brought me to tears with so much joy and so much style. That was it. She completely won the role. She came in and won the role.”

David Foster‘s wife Katharine McPhee gave the world premiere performance of the Betty Boop song “Something to Shout About” back in 2019.

BOOP! The Betty Boop Musical will play performances at Chicago’s CIBC Theatre from November 19 through December 24. Get tickets now!
