King Charles III Leads Royal Family To Committal Service For Queen Elizabeth II

King Charles III stands with his siblings as they take a moment ahead of the Commital Service for Queen Elizabeth II on Monday (September 19) in London, England.

Anne, Princess Royal, Prince Andrew, Duke of York, and Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex and Forfar were also joined by many other members of their family, including Prince William and his son, Prince George of Wales, and Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex.

Peter Phillips, and Sir Timothy Laurence, Princess Anne‘s son and husband, were also seen waiting for The Queen‘s casket to arrive for the private ceremony.

The committal service was held at St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle, and took place following the state funeral at Westminster Abbey. A private burial in The King George VI Memorial Chapel followed.

If you’re unaware, a committal service is a short ceremony that takes place at the end of the funeral, and is also where you say your final goodbye to your loved one before they are buried or cremated.

Queen Elizabeth's Four Children Stand Vigil at Her Coffin for 'Vigil of the Princes,' Exception Made for Andrew

The four children of the late Queen Elizabeth came together for the “Vigil of the Princes” while her coffin lies in state.

King Charles, Princess Anne, Prince Andrew, and Prince Edward surrounded the coffin on all four sides and stood vigil for about 15 minutes on Friday night (September 16) at Westminster Hall in London, England.

The children joined the King’s Body Guards to ceremoniously protect the coffin while it lies in state ahead of the Queen’s funeral on Monday.

A special exception was made for Andrew so he could wear his military uniform during the vigil. He is no longer a working member of the royal family, but he was allowed to wear the uniform as a sign of respect for the late Queen. He was stripped of his military titles and royal patronages after being accused of sexual assault.

Joining the children were Camilla Queen Consort, Edward’s wife Sophie, and other members of the royal family.
