Elon Musk Fires Twitter Engineer who Pointed Out His Dwindling Popularity (Report)

According to a new report, Elon Musk has let yet another person go at Twitter. However, this firing feels more personal.

The 51-year-old Twitter owner has shaken up the social media platform quite a bit since acquiring it in late 2022. That has included laying off a multitude of former staff members.

He reportedly fired a principal engineer after having a discussion about his dwindling engagement on the app earlier this week, according to Platformer.

According to the report, which was also picked up by Forbes, Elon wanted to know how he was only getting “10s of thousands of impressions” on his tweets despite having more than 100 million people following his accounts.

The engineer, who is one of only two in the position, allegedly explained to Elon that his popularity had waned somewhat since last year, which would explain the lower engagement.

“You’re fired, you’re fired,” Elon reportedly replied.

He does not appear to have replied to the report yet, and Platformer confirmed that they would not reveal the fired employees name to protect them from being singled out.

If you missed it, Elon Musk went into the new year by setting a new record with his net worth. It wasn’t a good record to set, though.
