Javier Bardem Says He Once Worked as a Stripper for a Day

Javier Bardem is looking back at his brief stint as an exotic dancer!

During an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show on Wednesday (March 9), the Being the Ricardos actor revealed he was once “a stripper for a day.”

“There is a time when I was 20, believe it or not,” he said. “And I was stepping out of a cake for a [friend's fiancée].”

Javier explained that the party ended up at a local dance club, where he “did [his] routine again on the disco dance floor” and made an impression on the owner.

“And the owner of the disco said, ‘Will you do that every Friday?’ And I said, ‘Yeah, of course!’ because I was drunk,” he recalled. “Then they hired me, and I had to perform the next Friday.”

When it was time for him to work his first shift, “I was so nervous, I called my mom and my sister to accompany me to my striptease number,” he told Ellen.

“There was nobody — I think there were, like, three people there? And it was very embarrassing, but I did it!” the Oscar nominee, 53, said. “I’m a performer, and I have my work.”

“So there were three people, and two of them were your mother and your sister,” Ellen joked.

“Exactly,” he replied with a laugh. “The other one was the owner of the place.”

As for what he wore during his routine, Javier said his costume was “a tuxedo that I would open.”

“And then I would have my little … thing there,” he laughed. “I was dancing to the [song] ‘You Can Leave Your Hat On’ [from the 1986 film 9½ Weeks].”

“How appropriate, Joe Cocker,” Ellen replied, asking if he’d consider a role in the third Magic Mike film.

“Yeah, they asked me to play the part where the old guy comes in and tries to do something and they’re like, ‘Stop it. … No no no no, not now!’ ” Javier joked, adding of Channing Tatum and the cast, “No, those guys know what they’re doing.”
