Sutton Foster Wins Special Award for Best Performance of the Entire Broadway Season!

Sutton Foster just won one of the biggest honors in the Broadway community!

The two-time Tony-winning actress was presented the Distinguished Performance Award during the 2022 Drama League Awards on Friday afternoon (May 20) in New York City.

The annual awards show honors just one acting performance for the entire theatrical season, encompassing all of Broadway and off-Broadway.

Sutton won the award for her performance in The Music Man and her co-star Hugh Jackman received the Distinguished Achievement in Musical Theatre award. Actors can only win the Distinguished Performance Award once in their career and Hugh won almost 20 years ago for starring in Broadway’s The Boy From Oz, so he was ineligible for The Music Man.

11 of Broadway's Elphabas Sang 'Defying Gravity' Together & The Ending Is Truly Epic (Video)

Shoshana Bean did something pretty epic for the virtual concert fundraiser she organized to support the high school she attended!

The Broadway star and singer was the second actress to play Elphaba in the musical Wicked and she gathered 10 other actresses who played the role to sing the act one finale number “Defying Gravity” with her.

Shoshana and the ten other women – Idina Menzel, Stephanie J. Block, Eden Espinosa, Jessica Vosk, Lindsay Mendez, Alexia Khadime, Julia Murney, Rachel Tucker, Kerry Ellis, and Lindsay Pearce – each sang a snippet from the song and then they all performed the final “ahhh” one after another.

The concert also featured performances from Cynthia Erivo, Jeremy Jordan, and student performers from across the Beaverton School District.

You can donate to the Beaverton School District’s performing arts program right now on GoFundMe. If you enjoy this video, make a donation!

Ariana Grande & Shoshana Bean to Perform in Composer Jason Robert Brown's Virtual Residency Concert

Ariana Grande and Shoshana Bean are making a special appearance!

The “thank u, next” singer and the Waitress Broadway star are set to appear in Tony-winning composer Jason Robert Brown‘s Artist-in-Residency concert virtually on Monday (April 27) at 8 p.m. ET.

PHOTOS: Check out the latest pics of Ariana Grande

The concert will be free to watch on Facebook and Vimeo, but donations are encouraged to assist the SubCulture staff and musicians amid the global health crisis.

If you didn’t know, Ariana got her big break at age 15 when she starred in Jason‘s Broadway musical 13.

“What I have missed and mourned the most over these last extraordinary weeks has been my ability to connect with music – to play and sing with other musicians, and to feel the audience responding. Every month for the past five years, I’ve been able to do just that at SubCulture, working with the best musicians and singers I know to make music together for a smart, involved and joyful audience in a place that’s come to feel like a second home,” he said.

“Sitting here watching the news go by, I had to do something, I had to figure out some way to let these notes and words in my head come out and be shared with my collaborators and my audience, and so, here we are. All of us in our homes, making music however and whenever we can, with an amazing team to help pull it all together, and two of the greatest singers on the planet Earth: the patron saint of the SubCulture Residency, Shoshana Bean, and Grammy-winner, icon and total theater nerd Ariana Grande. We’ve put together a show about what we’ve lost, what we’ve discovered and what we’re grateful for, and I can’t wait to share it with you.”
