Taylor Swift: 'Welcome to New York' Full Song & Lyrics - Listen Now!

The full version of Taylor Swift‘s brand new song “Welcome to New York” has arrived!

This is the third song that has been released from the 24-year-old singer’s upcoming album 1989, which will hit stores next week.

“I wanted to start the album with this song because New York has been an important landscape and location for the story of my life in the last couple of years,” Taylor said about the track. “The inspiration that I found in that city is kind of hard to describe and hard to compare to any other force of inspiration I’ve ever experienced in my life. It’s like an electric city and I approached moving there with such wide-eyed optimism and sort of saw it as a place of endless potential and possibilities.”

WHAT DO YOU THINK of Taylor Swift’s new song “Welcome to New York”?

Click inside to read the full lyrics to the song…

Walking through a crowd
The village is aglow
Kaleidoscope of loud heartbeats
Under coats
Everybody here wanted something more
Searching for a sound we hadn’t heard before
And it said

Welcome to New York
It’s been waiting for you
Welcome to New York
Welcome to New York
Welcome to New York
It’s been waiting for you
Welcome to New York
Welcome to New York

It’s a new soundtrack I could dance to this beat, beat
Forevermore
The lights are so bright
But they never blind me, me
Welcome to New York
It’s been waiting for you
Welcome to New York
Welcome to New York

When we first dropped our bags
On apartment floors
Took our broken hearts
Put them in a drawer
Everybody here was someone else before
And you can want who you want
Boys and boys and girls and girls

Chorus

Like any great love
It keeps you guessing
Like any real love
It’s ever changing
Like any true love
It drives you crazy
But you know you wouldn’t change Anything, anything, anything…
Chorus

The suspense for this album is insane. She is so great.

  • liz

all the songs sound repetitive and overproduced. why did she have to go the pop route?

  • Avril

“When we first dropped our bags on apartment floors

Took our broken hearts, put them in a drawer

Everybody here was someone else before” <—- Favorite part! <3

  • Elyse

This is a cheap rip off of Tegan and Sara. Love Taylor but she basically attempted to immitate their sound.

  • TeamBella76

I miss her country stuff !

  • hiiamaswiftie

    why do u care?

  • DiamondBackPain

This is not a song, it is the same lyric over and over. Sounds more like a commercial.

  • disqus_dVL9dlPcJp

it’s not as repetitive as Madonna’s New York song. Just sayin

  • Avril

Jus in the pre-chorus. What about in the rest of the song? lol

  • Nicole Miller

The production just doesn’t save this song. It’s simply poorly written and lifeless. The problem isn’t that she went pop, it’s that the music is not maturing.

  • Jenna

I miss the old Taylor of course, but I’ll forever and always love her no matter what. She is still very talented and perfect.

  • Tori Skidori

I like Taylor Swift, but this song is awful.

  • crystaljude

I agree with you! I really like her but she can do better than this song…

  • Shayla

Maybe because we are the ones who buy her music. This song is cool but the production behind it just doesn’t fit. Image if it was like a more soft, smooth maybe a ballad.

  • smmy33

Loved every song released so far……. can’t wait for the whole album .. It’s insane , love the new sound , so fresh from & different especially pop 40 … Girl got some made talent , able to change sounds with almost every album.

  • Von

Great song, the beat & her vocals f–k sound great.

First time in years I’m goings download a cd and not 1or 2 songs, every song has been so different then the last, each one I’ve liked and f–k funny I’ve liked them more I’ve listened to them .

  • DanielBobis

THIS SONG IS AMAZING. LOVE IT ♥

  • DanielBobis

OMG. THIS SONG IS AMAZING ♥

  • Anna

She’s an artist, she is in control of what kind of music she makes. And you have no obligation whatsoever to buy her music.

  • siennagold

I actually like it! It’s nice to hear her do a pop album for a change.

  • Alice

I like the beat. I enjoy the idea of the song (heyy… not one about someone that has broken her heart, for once, whooo!).
The music is leaving me puzzled, tho. I’ll probably end up getting used to it, but I’m pretty sure I’ll never *like* it. It’s like the tune is from an 80′s club song. Meh.

  • Alice

Also, this song is not helping to dispel my conviction that she’s gonna come out, one of these days…

  • Wade Wilson

It’s been proven that she can’t sing live, but people said hey, at least she’s a good songwriter. People aren’t going to say that anymore after weak drivel like this. This song is just awful.

  • Max_Freedom

    Offensively bad.
    This is terrible!
She is WAY too talented for this!!!

  • LeoGirl

All I can say is that I’m happy for her.
    She’s happy… I can hear it 🎧
A really solid fan of T.Swift…
Though I may never see her XD
    Happy or not!
Real fans will love u Tay no matter what!!

  • Avril

Maybe you should listen to All Too Well.

  • Nicole Miller

All Too Well is not on this album. It’s on Red, which like all her material shows signs of growth, but ultimately plays it safe and goes back to catering to teenage girls. I think Taylor has a lot of potential, but she sells herself short for the sake of commercial success.

  • Avril

Well, there you have my point proven. You said her music is not maturing but you have ATW which is on RED and was written like 4 years ago.

  • Nicole Miller

Her music as a whole is not maturing, it’s regressing and becoming more bubblegum. The storytelling I always complimented her on in her music so slowly vanishing. As a fan I’m sure you can find a deeper meaning in this song, but the reality is there’s just nothing here but “Welcome to New York” over a fun beat.

  • Avril

“Her music as a whole is no maturing” but ATW is a very mature song from her latest album, we haven’t heard 1989 yet so how do you know it’s not maturing?
The frist single of off RED was We Are Never Getting Back Together which was a poor song but then the album came out and there was a lot of lirycally and sonically masterpieces there. (WANEGBT ended up being my least favorite on that album… but, as I said, it was a single)

It’s true this song in particular is not her best but this is just one song and I don’t think it defines the whole album… or at least I hope so.

I liked Out Of The Woods more than Welcome To New York, the lyrics are better and also the sound. It’s true is repetitive but just in the chorus, the rest of the song has a great lyric.
Also I agree she always releases her weakest songs as singles but it seems that’s a marketing strategy that works for her

  • Radish

    Welcome to New York
    Welcome to New York
    Welcome to New York

Are we out of the woods yet?
Are we out of the woods yet?
Are we out of the woods yet?

    Shake it off
    Shake it off
    Shake it off
    Shake it off

    …Is this real life?

  • CC

So who did Tegan and Sara imitate? Lol. Their sound also stems from a genre of influential hitmaker’s before their time.

An artist saying they want a new sound, doesn’t mean they are trying to reinvent a genre. It means they are trying to reinvent themselves.

Taylor is doing just that. She is reinventing herself.

  • Joey Felano

You are dumb. Her songwriting is garbage now. Her lyrics suck on the three songs she’s released so far for this record. I don’t understand what you are trying to say. Nobody is talking about Red (which had great songs on it); we’re talking about 1989, which, as of now, blows. Not because of the change in style (she’s always been pop, just with “country” instrumentation), but because of the poor songwriting. Which is a disappointment for people who enjoyed her music for more than it’s catchy appeal.

  • IdilParkJiHee_Swifty

i prefer out of the woods.. i think it will take me a while to get use to this song..

    This song is amazing

  • Avril

You are talking about an album that hasn’t come out yet and you haven’t even heard half of the songs on that album lol.
OOTW has great lyrics, I know the chorus is repetitive but that means something, you who are not “dumb” should’ve figured it out by now plus the rest of the song is not repetitive and has great and meaningful lyric.
