The 25-year-old heartthrob has been breaking into the music charts with his latest single, “Only One” – and the summer anthem hasn’t shown any signs of slowing down.

The Boston-based musician is even slated to appear as himself in an October episode of 90210‘s fifth season on The CW!

SAMMY ADAMS – EXCLUSIVE JUSTJARED.COM INTERVIEW

JJ: Hey Sammy! Loving your music so far. How would you describe your sound?
SA: I would say it’s a new kind of pop sound.

JJ: What makes it stand out?
SA: It has very big hooks mixed with pop, hip-hop, rap, and a little R&B and reggae. It also has more of an electronic vibe, [compared to] other rappers.

JJ: Can you tell us about your song “Only One“?
SA: Yes, I wrote it about six or seven months ago. It’s sort of designed to make everyone that hears it feel important.

JJ: What are the lyrics about?
SA: It’s a story about a guy trying to get a girl. It’s sort of a romantic pop song. The song has a great tempo – it’s really fast and has a lot of guitars and cool sounds in it. [The lyrics] sort of have like a modern Romeo and Juliet feel.

JJ: We’re sure girls are lovin’ it. Was the song inspired by anyone special?
SA: No, not really. I mean I didn’t like write it about my girl. It was kind of a spur-of-the-moment thing.

JJ: Growing up, did you always want to get into the music industry?
SA: I did, I just didn’t know how it worked.

JJ: Well, all of your hard work is paying off, and now you’re working on your second album! What can fans expect to hear on it?
SA: A lot. In the new album I go back to my roots. It’s kind of got poppy, upbeat feel-good music, which is the type of music I like to listen to.

JJ: How have you changed as a musician while working on this album?
I’ve been able to grow and become a better writer, singer, rapper, and producer [while working on this album]. It was amazing to get to work with Pharrell and G Major because they have a lot of experience. It’s been very cool.

JJ: Is there anyone you’d love to collaborate with?
SA: Yeah, like Kanye, and I don’t know, Taylor Swift. There are a weird, weird variety of people I’d like to work with (laughs).

JJ: During one of your recent concerts, a fan climbed up on stage and proposed to his girlfriend! Did that surprise you?
SA: Actually, he hit me up on Twitter and I was like, ‘Yeah, that’d be really cool!’ Then we just strategically planned it. So it didn’t surprise me, I was just praying that she’d say yes. It was really, really cool.

JJ: That’s so crazy! Do you ever do over-the-top things for a girl you like?
SA: I do like subtle, sneaky things.

JJ: Speaking of girls, who is your celebrity crush at the moment?
SA: I have tons! Hayden Panettiere is cute, and Taylor Swift – always. (laughs) I have a whole bunch!

JJ: Is there anyone in the industry that you’d get starstruck by?
SA: I don’t usually get starstruck, but definitely Jay-Z. When I met Kanye, I was sort of starstruck, it was pretty cool.

JJ: Are you obsessed with any songs right now?
SA: Yeah, “Over My Dead Body” by Drake.

JJ: Can you tell us three fun facts about yourself?
SA: Hmmm… I sleep talk, I sleep walk, and I’m very energetic!
