Andrew Rannells Thought He Died Moments Before Broadway Debut in 'Hairspray' - Watch Now!
Andrew Rannells stops by Late Night with Seth Meyers to promote his new memoir Too Much Is Not Enough: A Memoir of Fumbling Toward Adulthood.
During his interview, 40-year-old actor talked about making his Broadway debut in Hairspray back in 2005 and a technical malfunction at the start of the show convinced him he had died.

“The curtain is supposed to fly up and we’re all there,” Andrew shares. “And I am not religious, but I was like, ‘Thank you for whoever did this for me,’ but I closed by eyes — I was really trying to be present because I watched a lot of Oprah then — and then I opened my eyes and it was still black and I thought I died.”
“This girl, Becky Gulsvig, was like, ’No the computer crashed, we have to start over,’” Andrew explains. “And I was like, ‘What? That’s a thing that happened on Broadway?!‘”
