Black Lives Matter Is Suing Trump for Using Force on Peaceful Protesters Outside the White House

Black Lives Matter‘s DC chapter has filed a lawsuit against President Trump and the federal government after force was used against protesters outside of the White House earlier this week.

The protesters who were gathered north of the White House were cleared out of the area on Monday (June 1), just moments before Trump walked from the White House to St. John’s Church for a photo opp.

Buzzfeed reports that the lawsuit is accusing officers of “attacking the demonstrators without warning and using excessive force — including deploying incendiary devices such as flashbangs, tear gas, smoke canisters, pepper balls, and rubber bullets.”

The complaint read, “This case is about the President and Attorney General of the United States ordering the use of violence against peaceful demonstrators who were speaking out against discriminatory police brutality targeted at Black people.”

The Episcopal bishop of Washington has slammed Trump for the photo opp.
