'Thor: Love & Thunder' Has the 3rd Biggest Box Office Opening of 2022, Becomes Franchise Best
The movie’s already brought in $143 million at the domestic box office via THR, making it the best opening for the franchise starring Chris Hemsworth.
The film also brought in $159 million overseas, resulting in a global total of $302 million to start.
It now has the third-best opening of the pandemic era behind Spider-Man: No Way Home ($260 million) and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness ($187.4 million).
The movie is the fourth in the Thor franchise: the first Thor debuted to $65.7 million in 2011, followed by $85.7 million for Thor: The Dark World in 2013. 2017′s Thor: Ragnarok took in $121 million.
While promoting the new Thor: Love And Thunder, Chris Hemsworth looked back at his audition to play the Marvel hero, revealing that one of his brothers almost played the superhero instead.
