SAG-AFTRA's Strike Explained: Everything You Need to Know

SAG-AFTRA is calling for a strike.

Earlier this morning, it was announced that the union – which represents 160,000 movie and television actors – is preparing to strike against the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers. The AMPTP was formed to represent the studios, streaming services and broadcast networks in their labor negotiations with unions.

The contract between the two organizations expired on July 12 at midnight and SAG-AFTRA’s negotiating committee unanimously voted to recommend a strike. This marks the first time in 60 years that the WGA and SAG-AFTRA have gone on strike at the time time.
