Cynthia Nixon: Rave Reviews for 'Wit'!

Cynthia Nixon attends the opening night after party for her new play, Wit, on Thursday (January 26) at B.B. King Blues Club & Grill in NYC.

The 45-year-old actress recently shaved her head to play Vivian Bearing, a woman undergoing treatment for ovarian cancer.

“Fearless doesn’t even begin to describe Nixon‘s performance. She never leaves the stage – the same stage, incidentally, where she delivered her Tony-winning performance in Rabbit Hole in 2006. And from her ‘Hi! How are you feeling today?’ introduction until her rebirth-like valediction, she never fails to captivate,” EW wrote in its review.

There is no amount of money or fame that would get me to shave my head for a role in a play, film, or television. I do not believe having a shaved head makes her more believable as an actress than if she were to wear a bald cap.

  • gray

well. good thing it;s getting good reviews so she can feel that it was worth it.

  • moto

probably less of a hassle to get the cap on for every single performance.

  • Emily

    True talent!

  • toon

@asha: no amount of money would get you to shave your head? lol, you re lying to yourself, sweetie.

  • emma

i think shaving her head gets her more into character. losing your hair because of chemo is a hard situation to deal with. maybe shaving her head makes her feel a little more connected to some of the feelings her character has.

  • heyeh

If she doesn’t like to shave it everyday (to get rid of 5 o’clock shadow), why don’t she just wax it? It takes longer to grow back and they myth that it won’t grow back as thick is simply that, a myth.

Surprisingly enough, she is absolutely stunning with the shaved head. She looks just as beautiful with no hair as she does with her gorgeous red locks. Kudos to her for taking on such a powerful and daring role. She looks amazing!

good for her to have the confidence to do that.. and more importantly, hair grows back. A lot of mine fell out due to stress and i like a person who can rock a bald head without complaining about it to every magazine.

  • todd

    Thats disgusting.

  • lexy hates bilson

She’s always been a talented actress I don’t know why people are so surprised. I think it’s great that she did this for a role and is showing her support for those who really have cancer. She knows at the end of the day her hair will grow back.

  • tom

She is one of the ugliest bald woman I have ever seen. I see a lot of shows in NYC, but I could not stand to watch her on stage looking like that.

  • mrd2

Emma Thompson did a movie of “Wit” and she was outstanding. Hope this woman is as good.

  • Franson

She looks like Jared Lee Loughner lol
