One Direction's Liam Payne Shares His Body Mass Index, Asks 'Do I Have to Look Like an Olympic Swimmer?'

Louis Tomlinson keeps his eye on where he’s going while leaving an office building and hopping into a car on Sunday (August 3) in New York City.

The 22-year-old One Direction singer was soon followed by his band mate Liam Payne, who took to Instagram that day to call out haters who comment on his weight.

“Now just because I’m sick of seeing this everyday so I just want to clear up what the media do to people these days,” Liam captioned a photo of his Body Mass Index (BMI). “Is it wrong to be normal? Or do I have to look like an Olympic swimmer just to get your approval into the cool kids or can I accept that the person I truly love thinks I’m the coolest kid in town anyway? Think I’ll vote the second one ;) enjoy your day people”

Earlier in the week, fellow 1D member Zayn Malik was spotted arriving at Chiltern Firehouse in London, England.

WHAT DO YOU THINK of Liam Payne’s note about his BMI?

This boy is always responding to every single bit of criticism about himself & he responds in the most arrogant way possible. By trying to prove he doesn’t care what people think he’s actually proving the exact opposite. This tells me that he is a young boy who hasn’t learned yet to handle fame in stride and that he thinks that he is exempt from criticism. Get yourself together Liam.

I hope this a-h-ole is saving his money. He will be a has-been in about 3 years.

dear commenters … stop being d-bags … everyone has feelings and having thousands of cowards a day hiding behind twitter and the internet take cheap shots at you can be quite annoying … none of us know this guy … everyone wants to be loved whether you admit it or not.

Oh, shut up. Who are you, the Web Police? Idiot.

    Gina Says:

@eternalozzie: The fact that internet cowards are a dime a dozen is the very reason why it’s futile for Liam to repond to them. For someone with millions of fans, why is he still so desperate to be loved?

@Gina: you don’t know sh*t the media have been calling him fat for over half a year now and he’s been seeing them but chose not to respond but after a while it gets old excuse him for wanting to put things straight and put an end to it, its sick that no matter what they do people like you will always try to point out something wrong like for f*cks sake they’re only people you wouldnt liked being picked at every little thing you do..even if he saved the whole world you would make it seem as if he’s doing something wrong

I use to really like Liam and had a huge crush on him. However, why does he ALWAYS feel the need to post on twitter every criticisms or opinion he reads/sees about himself? He just needs to ignore it like everyone else or get off social media, he’s making a fool of himself and the need to be accepted.

    Gina Says:

@athena: I don’t give a **** what the media has been calling him. Him tweeting about it is not going to make them stop. He’s basically letting them know that they’ve won. He went so far as to google, calculate and then post his BMI index!! Who does that unless they are self-involved and insecure. I don’t give a damn how fat he is but I do give a damn about how he conducts himself when being called fat and he’s done a terrible job. There is a reason why Harry is the most popular member. Harry has class and dignity and doesn’t act like a fool on twitter.

    Stephanie Says:

Gina, you’ve obviously never been bullied as it seems you are more of the bullying type. You’re doing a terrible job of conducting YOURself.

  12. 12
    Gina Says:

@Stephanie: You’re wrong Steph, never been bullied nor have I ever bullied anyone else. What else ya got?

  13. 13
    Stephanie Says:

My point exactly. Leave it alone. You don’t know these people but it’s so very easy for you to pass judgement and decide he should act. Let me know when you’ve been watched and judged by millions and then we might listen to your expert advice. He’s 20 years old, cut him a break.

  14. 14
    Gina Says:

@Stephanie: I don’t have to know someone personally to see things about them that I do not care for. I don’t need to be an expert to have an opinion on how people act and how they portray themselves to the world. I don’t care if he’s 20, he’s an adult and I’ve seen many mature 20 year olds (some of whom are in Liam’s band) conduct themselves better than this.

    Stephanie Says:

While I still don’t understand why he has offended you so deeply, you are absolutely correct. Anyone can throw out an opinion, but to give an informed opinion, one must have some knowledge on the subject. Whether the opinion has merit or not, people should conduct ourselves civilly and with dignity. Maybe we can set examples for the internet troll type behavior that seems to be appearing way too often. Thanks for the debate! It’s been interesting.

  16. 16
    Gina Says:

@Stephanie: Believe it or not, I’m a fan of his band and their music so I’m very familiar with the behavior he’s exhibited over the years. Its safe to say that I’m probably more informed than you are, which makes me call into question your opinion, actually. But yes, this debate has been interesting indeed.

    Stephanie Says:

@Gina I’m a big fan as well so we have that in common, lol. I just tend to step back from a situation and look at things from all angles. I definitely have my favorites and have seen some questionable/unbecoming behavior from every single one of them…but then I have to remind myself that we’re all young and still learning our way in this world. I kind of miss the earlier version of the group – they always seemed to have so much fun and were much more carefree. I definitely miss the Twit cam but those days are long gone. Have a great weekend!

@Stephanie Haha that shut her up! I saw another post from her on a different article where she called someone dumb. I don’t get why these people have to be so mean. Liam has a good sense of humor so maybe he was trying to address it and keep it light at the same time. Its not like he was rude to anyone. Thanks for staying so logical and not sinking to her level.

  19. 19
    Stephanie Says:

@jennifer Yeah… I’m not sure how she determined I wasn’t a fan. I didn’t stumble onto this article by accident. I’ve been a major fan since 2012 and see so many people sit behind your keyboard and talk crap. I seriously doubt she’d ever say that to his face.

He and his ex and current girlfriends have put up with a lot of crap and sometimes he responds. Which the last time I checked, he’s allowed to do because he’s also allowed to have an opinion. I just got really irritated because it’s not like Liam was being a jerk or anything. I thought he handled it well.

    Gina Says:

@jennifer: “Sinking to my level” ?? Gimme a break, I respond to people the way they respond to me. If I called someone dumb it was because they sunk to that level first with their comments towards me and I was reciprocating. And no, nothing is going to shut me up, not you and your passive aggressive posts and not Stephanie’s either. Liam’s ‘sense of humor’ is also very passive aggressive IMO.

  21. 21
    Gina Says:

@Stephanie: Trust me, I would have no problem saying anything to his face. People think that being a fan means you have to be a yes man and agree with everything they do. That is not how I operate. Liam can have all the opinions he wants but so can I.
