Robert Downey, Jr. Walks Out of Interview After Being Asked About His Past - Watch Now

Robert Downey, Jr. walked out of an interview with UK’s Channel 4 News with journalist Krishnan Guru-Murthy on Wednesday (April 22) after the questions got a little too personal.

The interview went on as normal for several minutes before things got awkward. Krishnan asked Robert if he could get personal, to which Robert responded, “You have as much time as anyone else has.”

When he began asking questions about his relationship with his father and his past drug use, Robert asked, “What are we doing?”

“It’s just getting a little Diane Sawyer in here,” Robert said as he left the room. Watch the interview below…

I don’t blame him for walking out. He was there to promote the movie and not be interviewed like it was the National Enquirer.

  • Mia Miaw

He s right…the past is the past we all know that he came back from hell….the interview was meant to be on the movie!!!!!…can t blame him!

  • Arx

Robert handled himself well and simply walked away… good for him. Its nice to see that he wasn’t rude to the interviewer like some famous people get.

  • MichaelD

He’s a self obsessed loser. When was the last time he saw his kids?

  • luna

what the guy asked to Robert was so … Inappropriate! I mean he is in promotion for a movie and not to be expose like that, it’s worst when the guy impose that to him! seriously, why?!

  • MrOboe

“You have as much time as anyone else has.”
I said that, but I didn’t really mean it. The multiple thank you’s are equally douche sincere.

  • W Lee

I’m glad Robert walked out on this a@# clown. Mr. Downey is there to do a promo for a movie and this idiot suddenly thinks he is Barbara Walters and starts asking questions about his personal life and past history. As usually some wanna be press a-hole thinks he can make a name for himself by stepping out of the professional boundaries of the interview that the actor agreed to. Mr. Guru Murthy you will never be nothing more than a local T.V. news hack so stop trying to pretend your Walter Cronkite of 60 minutes.

  • dalovelee

RDJ was correct in cutting the interview short, but unfortunately that reporter will get his 15 minutes of fame for RDJ walking out on him and the awkwardness of it all. It’s unfair to the actors/actresses to be sucker punched during their promo interviews.

The interview was suppose to be about his movie the Avengers, not his personal life. I think he handled himself well. Atleast he didn’t cuss out the guy or anything. RDJ has been pretty open about his past plenty of times, why would he talk about it though when he is promoting a movie like Avengers?
I like RDJ over many celebs like as Brangelina, George Clooney who seem prissy and spoiled and act like their sht doesn’t stink.

  • girl93

why? Because he didn’t want to talk about his past demons during the promotion of his movie? He’s an actor not a Kardashian, who has to talk about his personal life..

  • Jay

Channel 4 is really pissing me off with all this crap. Go back to what you use to do. They are trying too hard nowadays. Their idea of hard hitting journalism is offending whoever their interviewing.

  • jimrussell

Punch before you walk. Another idiot reporter thinking creating an incident and getting their name and face on TV is journalism, it isn’t. The only other thing Downey didn’t do but should have was provide an object lesson for this slug and slapped this disrespectful self absorbed grandstander into next week.

  • MimiB

Far too many interviewers try to go all tabloid on stars who are just out promoting their films, something they’re contactually required to do, by the way. Asking deeply personal embarrassing questions about their past and relationships is inappropriate. I think Downey was right to end the interview.

  • yitzhak

lmao cause he doesnt want to talk about his life? he’s there to promote a movie not to be interviewed about his past

  • Raspitou

The interviewer is a twit. His style is to ask provocative, controversial questions…look up his interview with Tarantino on YouTube, where Quentin got pissed and shut him down, “I refuse to answer your question! I’m not taking the bait!”

Unlike Tarantino, RDJ kept his composure, but was clearly not happy with the intrusive and unnecessary line of questioning. Sometimes stars do agree to talk about their private lives, but it;s usually publicized as such and something they agree to beforehand…and in a major media outlet like Oprah or, as he said, Diane Sawyer. A press junket for a movie is not the place for this.

  • mouth

Why is he still being hassled about sh!t that happened 25 years ago? What stupid shite. HOPE Tom takes a break from filming to support his buddies.

  • mouth

Has to? What are you smoking? He has to talk about his movie. That is all.

  • Shivani Yadav

I think he did the right thing…

  • coco

erm….i think you may have misunderstood what Robert meant by that. by saying that quote, he actually meant that he wasn’t gonna give the interviewer much time to talk about it at all, just as he has with previous interviews. he meant that statement sarcastically, not literally. cuz in general he never likes talking bout his personal past in interviews that are meant to be bout movies like this.

Celebrity or not, after you’ve gone through a dark period you might not be ready to talk about it unless you are in the mood. When RDJ seemed uncomfortable interviewer should just drop it. Also some people find their politics personal and don’t care to air it. His politics is not important unless he wants it to be, he’s not running for office. His drug past is his choce to talk about if he feels like it. Reporter should back off and not be a dick about a guy’s past he’s already admitted to that’s really not news.. RDJ was in his rights to leave. Celebrities are human too. it’s not like the reporter was asking him about his choice in roles or his job

Totally justified in walking out.

You can clearly hear his breathing, he’s upset.
