Lin-Manuel Miranda Could Become Youngest EGOT Winner on Oscars Sunday!

Lin-Manuel Miranda was nominated for a 2017 Oscar this morning for his work on the Moana song “How Far I’ll Go” which was nominated for Best Original Song – which means he could join the prestigious club of EGOT winners!

“That notion of staring at the horizon and wanting to know what’s on the other side of that. That’s a universal feeling, especially when you’re a teenager and everything’s a possibility and the distance between you and your dreams is like an enormous gulf. That’s what I tried to tap into,” Lin-Manuel said of his nomination.

When asked about EGOT’ing, he replied, “It’s so crazy, dude! I’m an Academy Awards dork. I’d cry at the Chuck Workman montages. I’d wait for them to shout out to Bill Conti when he was conducting. I’d memorize Billy Crystal’s monologues that he used to write with Marc Shaiman, who I’m working on with Mary Poppins Returns right now, so to get to go to that party is really a great thrill.”

If you didn’t know, an EGOT is someone who has gone on to win an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar and a Tony. He has one Emmy (for his work writing for the Tonys), two Grammys (for Hamilton and In the Heights‘ Best Musical Theater Album) and three Tonys (for In the Heights and Hamilton). Lin-Manuel would be the youngest winner – the next youngest is 41 and Lin-Manuel is 37!

Best of luck, Lin-Manuel!

The Oscars will air on Sunday (February 26).
