Angelina Jolie Gives a First Look at Her Netflix Movie 'First They Killed My Father'

Angelina Jolie is finally sharing the first promo for the Netflix film she directed, First They Killed My Father.

The movie is based on the autobiography of Cambodian human rights activist Loung Ung.

It tells the true story of the devastation in Cambodia stemming from the Khmer Rouge communist party in the 1970s, which led to the death of two million people.

Angelina explains, “The heart of it is Loung’s story, it’s the story of a war through the eyes of a child, but it is also the story of a country.”

“It’s the first time on this size there’s something about this war and country,” Angelina added about the film, which she insisted only use Cambodian actors and speak their native language.

Check out the preview for the film below…

I always wanted to learn more about the Khmer Rouge. Weird to be excited for a movie about genocide. But I am.

    Angie looks angelic in white.

Have you seen The Killing Fields? Awesome film of that time.

  • Lylian

I visited the killings fields near Phnom Penh. It’s just a field, very peaceful now. There are mass graves and as the earth shifts over time, bones of those buried there emerge and the bigger pieces are taken to a special tower build on the fields. You can see many skulls.

The one thing which made me cry is this tree, (called the Killing Tree) now covered with coloured ribbons – I believe they hold prayers. During the Khmer Rouge period, if babies of the prisoners cried, their heads were smashed against the trunk of this tree. I picture soldiers, so lost to humanity, so drunk on power that they can pick up a helpless baby by the feet and swing its like a base ball bat against this tree trunk.

  • African Girl

About 2 years ago, I started to watch a documentary about the Khmer Rouge and I couldn’t get through the whole thing. It’s hard to believe human beings did that to othe human beings.

  • Erianthe

And we haven’t learned anything from history — we’re repeating it now — ISIS targeting Yazhidis, North Korea with their mass executions, Syria, just to name a few places. How do you exact justice against what happened to those killed during the Khmer Rouge? Children being smashed against a tree … my God. There’s no trial or prison for those that commit genocide that can make up for those deaths.

Very much looking forward to watching Angie’s film about the atrocities inflicted upon the Cambodian men, women and children by the Khmer Rouge although I know it will be hard to watch the inhumane cruelty towards the innocents. I hope her film is well received so that it illustrates the strength and will of these wonderful people.

  • Do Tell

Yes! As soon as I saw her, that’s what I was thinking.

Jolie’s looks have really changed in that on film in years past, she looks so much like a sexy siren type. Now tho, she looks so soft, angelic and especially vulnerable. Her inner beauty is radiating.

    OMG!!! How soulless.

I saw The Rape of Nanking Doc., where 300,000 were killed. That did me in, when an old man wept, telling the story of his mother, holding his baby brother to her breast, as the Japanese raped and murdered her. It killed me. They killed the baby also.

  • toastie postie

Yes and the part where the Cambodian, who is escaping, walks over all those dead skeletons, is horrific.

The U.S. Department of Justice will not be filing an emergency stay on Friday night to overturn a Seattle’s judge ruling that blocked a U.S. executive order temporarily barring refugees and nationals from seven countries from entering the United States, a spokesman said.

The White House had earlier said the emergency motion would be filed “at the earliest possible time.”

Oops. Guess they actually have to do their homework and try to prove how it is constitutional.

I remember in the days following the split announcement many of us here were wondering how and/or if the fans here are going to carry on. It is good to see how active the JP threads remain even though many of the regulars have dropped out and some have turned and shown their true colors. Although most of us here are disappointed with how things have turned out between Brad and Angie personally, I don’t think I’m wrong in saying that we remain admirers of their professional and humanitarian works and of who they are.
So I just want to say “thank you!” to everyone here for carrying on the sisterhood of the JP fandom and making it such a pleasure to come to JJ to catch up with news of not only the JPs but of what’s going on in the world and life in general 😊

A president calling a judge a “so-called judge”, this is language of a child

The opinion of this so-called judge, which essentially takes law-enforcement away from our country, is ridiculous and will be overturned!

  • Felinelilly

What’s happening in, and to, America is truly scary. The USA is the absolute last country I ever thought would become a dictatorship. It’s so sad that it all seems to be heading that way. America is a baby compared to Europe, but as a citizen of a country who has been through many a Revolution and many changes to grow, these are America’s growing pains right now and you all need to fight to keep your freedoms and everything your country stands for, and NOT let this brain dead idjit in charge destroy everything your country is founded on.

You are reported for deleting anti Trump comments and I have send them all your accounts you used to upvote pro Trump comments, if they take action against you, it’s your own fault.

    Edit

And it doesn’t matter you deleted your accounts after reading and deleting my comments, the Internet never forgets and Disqus & co know you (IP address etc).

Lock him up. He is advocating the murder of protesters.

  • Dawne

    Amen.

  • Erianthe

    Hellooooooo Angela!

  • Felinelilly

Coming from a so-called president, I don’t expect anything more intelligent.

  • Dawne

Trump should put down the poison pen and take a few crash courses in basic Civics.

Does he know Federal Judges are not ‘So Called.’ Does he know that he is not running an autocracy and is subject to the rulings of the Judiciary?

Does he know that the Executive is as subject to the law as is all other citizenry?

In business he could bully, agitate, cheat, but it is just not as easy doing it from the Oval. It will be interesting to see how his JD defends the ban on countries who have not caused the death of one American…….more Americans being radicalized by the internet have killed Americans……….it is a statistical zero.

If they had not politicized this to the nauseating max, spreading fear to the DUMB, all they had to do was make the vetting for VIsa apps. tougher………..but that is not the issue it is merely him wagging his teeny dick in the political wind and the blow back has had the effect of dipping it into an ice bucket.

If he was actually S M A R T he would take the ruling as a way to extricate himself from this colossal mess that is now being protested globally.

  • Dawne

Can’t wait to see the ad. Will be a giant step up from the HW hasbeen pimping Aveeno and trying to sell her scents at Walmart.

Never ceases to amaze me how lusting after and abusing power can lower the base instincts of the human condition to the these levels of outright evil and inhumanity. Cue Syria today.

DHS suspends “any and all actions implementing the affected sections” of Pres. Trump’s immigration order following judge’s order.

  • ali7

Angie said in her op-ed usually refugees coming for resettlement in America get extreme vetting than any other country in the world. As u said he is spreading fear and that a dangerous path to take

  • hotmesss

Yes she went into deal which shows that its not an easy process. I love how she laid this out and gave facts not falsehoods.
“It is simply not true that our borders are overrun or that refugees are admitted to the United States without close scrutiny.
Refugees are in fact subject to the highest level of screening of any category of traveler to the United States. This includes months of interviews, and security checks carried out by the F.B.I., the National Counterterrorism Center, the Department of Homeland Security and the State Department”.

  • ali7

Lol so-called president is trending on twitter

  • ali7

And she knows this because UNHCR oversees refugees resettlement but the orange doesn’t know this instead he listen president Bannon

  • GroundControl500

I would have preferred staying at the previous thread. Angie’s Op Ed on the immigration crisis and Trump’s violation of their rights is more important than her movie promo.

We could always migrate here later.

As long as Bannon doesn’t try to stop our migration.

  • GroundControl500

Neiman’s shouldn’t be selling junk anyway. That’s all her stuff is – cheaply made junk.

  • GroundControl500

Such a sad affair what is happening in Paris. What has the world come to when one has to worry about being in Paris? And I don’t mean the nazis.
