Camila Mendes Explains The Ending of 'Dangerous Lies' (Spoilers Ahead!)

Camila Mendes stars in the new Netflix thriller Dangerous Lies, which is currently the most watched movie or TV show on the streaming service for May 2. The film has a lot of twists and turns and she’s now speaking out about that ending!

In the movie, Camila plays a woman named Katie who takes a job as a caretaker to a wealthy elderly man in his sprawling, empty Chicago estate. The two grow close, but when he unexpectedly passes away and names Katie as his sole heir, she and her husband Adam (Jessie T. Usher) are pulled into a complex web of lies, deception, and murder.

The final moments of the movie reveal something to the viewer and Camila is speaking out on that moment.

We learn near the end of the movie that Leonard, the man who Katie was taking care of, was killed by a man named Hayden because he has been trying to track down a bag of diamonds that he believes is hidden in the house.

In a shoot-out in the house, Adam and Hayden both die and we find out that Katie’s lawyer Julia was Hayden’s accomplice this whole time. Julia tries to make Katie hand over the diamonds, but Adam hid them and she doesn’t know where they are. The detective enters the home at this point and kills Julia.

The movie cuts to four months later and Katie is tending to the garden outside of the home and we see the diamonds glistening in the soil as the picture fades to black.

So, did Katie actually know where the diamonds were?

“You know, we’ve been asked this question a lot and the more I get asked, the more I start to change my answer. But I liked playing it that she didn’t know,” Camila told Collider. “In a way, not didn’t care, but just considering how much drama there was around those diamonds, I think the idea of finding them and whatever that might bring and whatever responsibility might follow, I think is a pretty scary, daunting thought. So, in a way, maybe she’s totally fine not finding the diamonds.”
