Producer Says Idris Elba Is 'Part of the Conversation' In Search for New James Bond

Since it was announced Daniel Craig will be moving on from his role as James Bond, there’s been tons of speculation that Idris Elba will take over the role.

In a new interview with The Deadline Podcast, producer Barbara Broccoli addressed the rumors that the 49-year-old actor would play 007 in the next installment of the franchise.

“Well, we know Idris, we’re friends with him, and he’s a magnificent actor,” she said.

“And, you know, it’s been part of the conversation, but it’s always difficult to have the conversation when you have someone in the seat,” Barbara continued.

“I think we have decided that until No Time to Die has had its run and Daniel has been able to — well, we’ve all been able to savour, reap the benefits of Daniel’s wonderful tenure, we’re not gonna think about, or talk about anybody else,” she explained.

Her comments are somewhat surprising as Idris had commented on the rumors back in October.

“No, I’m not going to be James Bond,” he said at the time. However, when asked whether he’d want to take on the iconic role, he replied: “Who wouldn’t?”

Back in 2019, the actor shared why the speculation surrounding him playing James Bond leaves him “disheartened.”
