CNN's Jake Tapper Still Has an Issue with Prince William's Statement on Ukraine

There has been some controversy surrounding the comments that Prince William made this week while visiting the Ukrainian Cultural Centre in London.

William received criticism from social media users after his comments were misquoted by a reporter inside the event and CNN anchor Jake Tapper still has an issue with the actual quote given by the royal.

The prince was originally quoted as saying that the UK people were “more used to seeing conflict in Africa and Asia… It’s very alien to see this in Europe. We are all behind you.”

A video revealed that William actually said, “Everyone is horrified by what they are seeing. It’s really horrifying. The news every day, it’s just, it’s almost unfathomable. For our generation, it’s very alien to see this in Europe. We’re all right behind you. We’re thinking about you. We feel so useless.”

When the misquoted statement began floating around online, Jake took aim at the part of the quote that said, “It’s very alien to see this in Europe.” He said, “Read a book about your own family, dude.”

Jake‘s tweet was then deleted and he wrote a new statement.

“The original pool report on this Prince William quote from the UK was inaccurate, so I deleted my tweet about it,” he wrote. “Here’s video of the quote. It remains ahistorical to say for someone born in the early 80s it’s ‘very alien’ to see war in Europe. The Balkans conflict throughout the 1990s was hideous.”
