The man was sentenced to 21 years in prison, officials said via AP.

The Lady Gaga connection was a coincidence, according to authorities, and the real motive was the value of the French bulldogs, a breed known to go for thousands of dollars. Detectives do not believe the thieves knew the dogs belonged to the musician.

James is one of three men and two accomplices involved in the violent robbery. He pled no contest to one count of attempted murder, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.

He shot the dog walker near Sunset Boulevard, and two of the dogs were taken. A nearby doorbell camera recorded the dog walker screaming “Oh, my God! I’ve been shot!” and “Help me!” and “I’m bleeding out from my chest!”

The dogs, named Koji and Gustav, were returned several days later by Jennifer McBride, who was also charged in the crime.

He wascharged with attempted murder, conspiracy to commit a robbery and assault with a semiautomatic firearm.

Harold White, another accomplice, pled no contest as well to a count of ex-convict in possession of a gun. He was was in a relationship with the woman who returned the dogs at the time, and will be sentenced next year.

They allegedly tried to help Harold‘s son, Jaylin White, avoid arrest in the aftermath. Jaylin pled no contest to second-degree robbery and was sentenced to four years in state prison.

Meanwhile, Lady Gaga is making headlines for a very different reason this week.
